They made it! We’ve been telling you about Boy Scout Troop 32’s trip over the past week from VA to WY. They just completed their week long hike in Wyoming over the weekend. They will all be back home this week, back in Nelson. You can read about their entire trip from start to finish along with pics by clicking here. It’s a neat read so check it out!

Speaking of weekend, there was lots going on right here in Nelson. Wintergreen Nature Foundation held its Discover Virginia Retreat series. Read more here. And Hill Top Berry Farm & Winery held its annual Blackberry Harvest Festival. Click here to read berry more!

Don’t look for any improvement over the next few days in the temperature / humidity department. They are all on strike! The iceman took a vacation too! Today will be hotter than Sunday since we’ll see more sunshine, the humidity will be higher today (don’t know how, it’s been terrible for days!) as a frontal boundary moves back to the north of our area allowing southern moisture to work into the area. Tuesday is going to be hotter than today with temperatures around 100 degrees in many areas. Cooler Canadian high pressure will be in the neighborhood by the weekend bringing better temps.

Here’s the numbers from Sunday: As of 11:59 PM EDT Sunday night

*NCL-Nelson County Life Magazine : Greenfield / Afton
Sun High: 88.9 degrees @ 12:50 PM
0.02″ of rain

*NCL-Wintergreen Nature Foundation : Devil’s Knob

0.06″ of rain

*NCL-Delfosse Vineyard & Winery near Hickory Creek : Faber

*NCL-Mini Tara Vineyards : Arrington

0.00″ of rain

*The Covesville Store : Covesville
Sun High: 87.9 degrees @ 3:42 PM
0.27″ of rain

The current surface map shows a frontal boundary moving back to the north. The front will be generally around NOVA or slightly north over the next day. With the front in the area we will have scattered chances for afternoon thunderstorms again today. We’ll see more sunshine.
Current-Sat Surface Map

On the National Forecast Map, the front stays north allowing the humidity to go up today with temps in the 90’s. Much hotter temps are on tap by Tuesday. There is some chatter by forecasters at the NWS about reaching 100 + degrees mentioned in the hazardous weather outlook for the week:

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY
FROM MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY…HEAT INDEX VALUES ARE EXPECTED TO BE
NEAR 100 DEGREES EACH DAY. TUESDAY IN PARTICULAR LOOKS TO BE THE
HOTTEST OF THOSE THREE DAYS…WITH HEAT INDICES RANGING FROM 100
