Nelson County, Virginia
After several days in a row with low gray clouds, rain, fog, and drizzle, skies will begin clearing this afternoon, with much better weather on Wednesday. Just before noon Tuesday local satellite showed the clouds starting to erode near Nelson County and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. As the day wears on, more sunshine will move in pushing temps to near 60 before dark.

By Wednesday afternoon temps will easily warm into the lower 70’s. You can get a complete wrap of weather details by listening to Tommy’s Weather in the player to your right or by clicking here.

Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks tells NCL”s Web Edition two men have been arrested and charged with a variety of drug crimes after a search warrant was served late last week. The residence is on Route 56 West (Crabtree Falls Highway) between Tyro and Massies Mill in southwest Nelson County.

Father and son, Peter Balin and Kristoffer Balin were both charged with, conspiracy to distribute marijuana and drugs of more than an ounce but less than 5 pounds. Additional charges for the sale and distribution of more than 1/2 oz but less than 5 pounds were also placed against the pair after the search warrant was served at the 3385 Crabtree Falls home.

“This was a cooperative effort between our department, The Rockbridge Sheriff’s Department, and the federal agency of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms,” Sheriff Brooks says. Brooks went on to say that bank records, 24 guns, illegal fireworks, 3 cell phones, 5 banana clips for a rifle, small amount of meth, smoking devices, marijuana, cash, checkbook register, and pay stubs were all taken as part of the search.

The pair was placed under a 5000.00 secured bond and have been scheduled for a court date next month.

The clock is ticking on the end of Winter as Spring begins next weekend on March 21st. Yes, there will still be skiing for the next few days, perhaps on into late March, but with average daily temperatures beginning to rise, it won’t be much longer before the snow will be gone and minds turn to warmer weather. Our Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura, grabbed these shots over the weekend at Freestyle’s Rail Jam. Check their site here for the final results. It unofficially marks the end of snow sports season, though as we just mentioned, skiing, boarding, and tubing will go on as long as weather permits into the final days of March. Check Wintergreen Resort’s site here for the absolute latest updates.

Thanks for the great shots Paul!
