Grab a cold beer & a pizza in the brewery or on the deck for a night of Americana Roots Music at Blue Mountain Brewery with Trent Wagler & the Steel Wheels. Show starts at 7 pm.
Their acoustic music ranges from old time, country folk, infused with elements of gospel, blues, and rock and roll. Trent has been singing since the age of 4. He grew up Mennonite, singing four part harmonies in a family gospel quartet. His musical training since then includes punk rock, jam bands, select university choirs, traditional Arabic music, and his grandfather’s harmonica. The Steel Wheels joined Trent in January of 2005, adding a fresh sound and exciting energy to his songwriting. The Steel Wheels are Brian Dickel on Bass, Eric Brubaker on Fiddle, and Jay Lapp on Mandolin. Trent and the Steel Wheels have toured internationally and across the US. They’ve shared the stage with Robin and Linda Williams, Tim Reynolds, Marshall Crenshaw, Carrie Newcomer, Over the Rhine, John McCutcheon, and Adrienne Young & Little Sadie among others. Together Wagler and the Wheels have assembled a loyal following that appreciates the honest, deceptively simple sound, with raw emotion and strong musicianship.

After some spectacular weather over the weekend, changes moved in last night after dark. Paul Purpura grabbed the weather shot showing the rain clouds moving in at dusk. The first half of the weekend was perfect. Saturday, not a cloud in the sky, and temps in the low to mid 80’s for afternoon high temperatures. Even Sunday turned out to be a good day with readings near 80°, most of the rain holding off until after dark.
Today look for widespread rain showers and perhaps even some thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temps will be a bit cooler Monday with high in the upper 60’s to near 70° vs 80° yesterday. Chances for rain continue through Tuesday night, with more sunshine by Wednesday. By Thursday into the weekend temperatures begin warming, topping out around 80° by Saturday and Sunday with sunny skies.
You can hear all of the complete weather details in Tommy’s Weather on the home page player at the top, or by clicking here too!
Disarmingly mature, Nesbit embodies the spirit of modern mountain music. It is pure, smooth and hauntingly melodic at times, upbeat and downright clog worthy!

With warmer days ahead and sunny skies, preparations got underway Saturday for the opening of the 2009 Nelson Farmers Market Co-op next month. A unique view from under shows volunteers prepping the tent for the raising to follow.Russ Fisher, local artist and vendor at the market, shows off the recently touched up road sign that sets just off of Route 151 in Nellysford during the market season. In addition to the normal tents at the market, an additional wine tasting tent will be on hand to highlight local vineyards and wineries in Nelson.

Beech Grove/Wintergreen
The weather couldn’t have been better this past Friday evening as Blue Ridge Medical Center held its annual Rural Health Outreach Program benefit. For the very first time in over a decade the event was moved from it’s old location at Spruce Creek Gallery just south of Nellysford. Spruce Creek closed back in January, so the event was moved to Wintergreen WInery’s new event facility. The evening was superb! Sue Bernard was recognized by Peggy Whitehead, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Medical Center, and Judy Rendich who organized this year’s Spring Garden Party. Sue helped kick off the very first Spring fundraiser and hosted everyone until this year.
Before moving inside for the auctions, folks enjoyed the beautiful weather outdoors on a fantastic Spring evening. The wine for the event was provided by Wintergreen Winery along with microbrews from Blue Mountain Brewery and Devils Backbone Brewing Company. Tommy Stafford, Publisher of Nelson County Life Magazine (and yep this website!) was the emcee and auctioneer for the evening. The group Mongrel along with the duo The Honeydew Drops provided entertainment for the night.Numerous items were up for bid in the live auction after the silent auction for the evening closed. Plenty of food was on hand along with beautiful floral arrangements from local greenhouses.Did we mention the wine? Thought so. Jeff Stone of Wintergreen Winery, (right) enjoys the fruits of his own labor!
All proceeds from the Spring Garden Party help fund The Rural Health Outreach Program.
Nelson County, Virginia Martins Store Substation BPL Update – April 17, 2009
There is little to report this week as the crews were all pulled to do storm work. They will return Monday and we will continue to optimize the networks. We have done a better job with the map. The new one shows the same information but is cleaner and easier to read.
