CVEC Managers Prepare For Future

From CVEC

Operations Manager Alan Scruggs and Engineering Manager Robert Harris have completed an intensive program in electric utility management with the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program (MIP) is a series of workshops offered by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin. The program guides participants through all facets of the electric utility industry, including the many changes occurring around the nation.

Alan Scruggs and Robert Harris are two of only a few electric utility managers that will graduate from the Management Internship Program this year.

MIP participants go through three 10-day sessions designed to challenge and educate participants in new, innovative management techniques. Participants leave with a better understanding of what consumers want and how to ensure they get it.

By also covering the unique principles that govern the operations of electric cooperatives, the program helps the co-op analyze other business ventures it may want to enter as well as enhancing the core organization. CVEC President and CEO Gary Wood said, “Alan and Robert worked hard to complete the MIP curriculum which will bolster their already high productivity in service to the Cooperative membership. We are proud of their efforts and dedication.”

Only rural electric cooperative CEOs and top level management participate in the program.
This allows greater emphasis of study, on management challenges and the aspects of consumer-ownership that cooperatives enjoy. Participants learn to be more consumer focused in their daily management decisions.

Alan Scruggs and Robert Harris have completed one of the most exclusive educational programs in the nation for electric cooperative management.

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative, a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility serving the rural portions of 14 counties, is dedicated to providing employees with ongoing technical and customer service training to ensure that Cooperative members receive the highest level of effective and friendly service.

Backroads Founder & Author Needs One Final Issue : March 1984!

Love
Nelson County, Virginia

Back in July of 2010 we told you about Lynn Coffey and her most generous gift to Nelson County’s Museum of Rural History. During that presentation Lynn donated a complete set of her Backroads Newspaper / Magazine. That’s 25 years worth of Nelson County history. Preserved. Lynn told us then that she had several issues missing to make the 25 years complete. Over the past several months she’s done it! Except for one issue, that is. “All I need now is March 1984 and I will have every issue to donate the entire 25 years worth of publishing to the the museum,” Lynn recently told us.

So here we are asking for that final issue needed. March 1984.

Nelson County Life has made the same offering and is providing the museum with all of our issues from start to the current issues being printed.

If you can help Lynn out, please contact her. If you have this issue lying around or know someone that does, give Lynn a call at: 540.949.0329 for more info and to arrange pickup or mailing expense.

Lynn Coffey, is the author of the Backroads books; Plain Folk & Simple Livin’ and The Road to Chicken Holler
