Spring arrived in style this past Sunday as folks at Wintergreen Resort celebrated the unofficial end to the 2010-2011 ski season. There may be a day or two left but the annual Pond Skimming marks the general end to the season as minds turn toward warmer days to come. Our NCL Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura made the 2011 event, just like he has countless times in the years past.

Sold Out! “No more room. It was a great concert event with so many exceptional bluegrass and musical artist under one roof,” said Victoria Mininger, NCL’s East Nelson County Photographer. We first told you about the upcoming tribute to Curtis in our March 2011 issue of Nelson County Life Magazine. The concert benefits The Nelson Music Project which is joint project between Nelson County’s Museum of Rural History and Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation.

Above, our March 2011 story on page 28 about the tribute to Curtis Matthews.

The crowd waits for the show to start - visiting with one another, catching up on old times.

“There was a real hometown air about the event tonight, even from the musicians as they conversed back and forth with the crowd while they picked, played and sang. You could tell they were right at home – almost like a back porch jam session,” NCL’s Victoria Mininger noted while taking the shots.

Supermoon Rises Over Nelson

Photos By Paul Purpura : ©2011 www.nelsoncountylife.com : NCL Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura, grabbed several nice shots of what's called a Supermoon rising over the Rockfish Valley Saturday night. This shot was taken from Founders Vision Overlook above Wintergreen Resort.

Wintergreen Resort
Nelson County, Virginia

According to the experts, a supermoon hasn’t occurred in our area for about 20 years. So, NCL Photographer, Paul Purpura wasn’t going to miss this chance! He grabbed some very nice pictures from atop Wintergreen this past Saturday night.

In this shot, the supermoon just begins to appear on the eastern horizon as seen from Founders Vision Overlook above Wintergreen Resort.
A few evening clouds looked like they might cover the moon, but eventually went away, keep scrolling down!
As the supermoon made its way up into the sky, Paul grabbed this one final shot!

Nice photos Paul!
