…FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE
FRIDAY NIGHT…

The Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central and western Virginia, including the Central
and Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, and the counties of Albemarle,
Greene, Nelson, Madison, Page, Augusta, Highland, and Rockingham.

* From late tonight through late Friday night.

* Periods of moderate to potentially heavy rain will move
through the southern Shenandoah Valley and upslope regions
east of the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Front overnight tonight
through the day on Friday. Total rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is
expected, with much of that falling in a 6-12 hour timeframe.
Localized amounts of 3 or more inches are possible.

* Conditions remain wet after rain that occurred late last week,
so the upcoming rain has the potential to increase stream
levels and cause flooding, especially on small streams in the
watch area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

…Flooding Possible Tonight and Friday…

.A deep low pressure system tracking from the south central U.S.
toward the Great Lakes over the next couple of days will draw
abundant Gulf moisture northward into the eastern United States
ahead of an associated slow moving cold front. Rainfall will
average 1.5 to 3 inches across much of the forecast area.

This rain will be falling on very saturated ground from recent
repeated heavy rainfall events and snow melt from earlier in the
month. The rain will not be absorbed well by the already moist
ground. Runoff from the rainfall will likely result in flooding of
small streams and creeks tonight and Friday.

Main stem river flooding will also likely be renewed Friday and
in some cases, particularly along the lower portion of the Dan and
Roanoke Rivers, will result in minor to potentially moderate
flooding that could continue into early next week.

Yadkin. In Virginia, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Botetourt,
Buckingham, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Floyd, Franklin,
Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Roanoke, and
Rockbridge.

* From 7 PM EST this evening through Saturday morning

* 1 to 3 inches of rain, locally 4 inches, is expected along and
east of the Blue Ridge tonight through Friday evening.

* Minor to moderate flooding of small creeks and streams is
possible. This would result in flooding of roads and poor
drainage areas. Minor flooding is also possible along main stem
rivers and tributaries, including the Roanoke, Dan, James,
Yadkin, and Watauga River basins.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on

Merry Christmas From Blue Ridge Life! (2018)

0
We live, work and play in a beautiful place. You’ve been with us every step of the way now for almost 14 years! Merry Christmas!

Central Virginia Blue Ridge
Nelson County, Virginia

Since April 1, 2005 all of you have been a major part of our life and we have been a part of yours. Can you believe it’s been almost 14 years already.? You were there when we started, and when started our family here in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia. Two years later we added another life to the mix! We can’t imagine ever calling any other place home!

©2005-2018 Blue Ridge Life Magazine : Back in 2005, there we are!  Publishers Tommy & Yvette Stafford (no kids yet in those days) at the Cris Kringle Christmas Tree Farm in Roseland. We kicked off our charter publication called Nelson County Life Magazine earlier that year on April 1, 2005. Several years ago we rebranded ourselves to Blue Ridge Life Magazine covering Nelson and the entire region. Since those days the two have grown to four!

As we approach the end of another year here in the Blue Ridge and enter the Christmas holiday, we simply want to say thank you. If it weren’t for you, our readers, we’d have no magazine, no purpose for publication.

And we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our sponsors and advertisers you see each month in the pages of BRL and here on the website to your right. Many of them have been with us since the very day we started back in 2005. We cannot thank them enough. It’s so important that you thank and support them as well. Choosing to do business locally and supporting those that support us has kept our magazine free and priceless for 14 years!

We thank all of you again sincerely from the bottom of our hearts!

Merry Christmas,
Tommy, Yvette, Adam & Peyton

“The Atlantic Coast Pipeline has sued the Nelson County Board of Supervisors. The lawsuit was filed in the Western District of Virginia’s federal court after the county denied Dominion Energy’s request to build the pipeline across waterways.

A few days later on Dec. 13, a federal appeals court vacated the pipeline’s construction permits to cross two national forests and the Appalachian Trail along the pipeline’s route.

Nelson County Supervisor Ernie Reed said Dominion’s lawsuit has no standing.”

NC Inmate Charged With Burlington Murder & 2017 Shooting In Nelson Planned Bombing Of NC Jail

1
(BRL File) : Sean Damion Castorina, 43, is one of three people charged with planning to blow up the North Carolina jail where he’s being held for the 2017 murder of a Burlington man. He’s also involved in a 2017 shooting in Rockfish of Nelson County, Virginia where police say he fled after the NC murder.

Alamance County, NC

BRL learned late Friday evening that Sean Damion Castorina, age 43, has been charged in connection with a plot to blow up the North Carolina jail where he’s being held on charges of first degree murder of a Burlington, NC man in August 2017. The plot information was published in The Times-News in Fayetteville. The case has relevance back here in Nelson County, Virginia where police say he was involved in the shooting of a Rockfish, Virginia woman. They say he first murdered 84 year old Harold Dean Simpson of Burlington in August 2017.

Authorities say he stole Simpson’s car and drove it Nelson County where he eventually shot the woman in Rockfish and fled. The victim survived and recovered, but was left for dead. He and an accomplice, Penny M. Dawson of Burlington, were eventually captured after fleeing Nelson County. They were apprehended far away by the Fergus Falls, Minnesota Police Department. It’s believed they were trying to make it to Canada.

North Carolina authorities immediately extradited the couple back there to stand trial for the murder of Simpson.
