As of 8:25 AM Friday morning about 180 people were shown without power after strong winds and even some hail moved across the area around daybreak. That’s down from a peak of about 210 earlier.

PIPE FAILURE CLOSES ONE LANE ON ROUTE 6 NEAR SCOTTSVILLE
Update : Temporary repairs to the pipe on Route 6 (Irish Road) are complete and all lanes are open to traffic.
Crews are preparing to make emergency repairs
CULPEPER — Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation are on the scene of a pipe failure on Route 6 (Irish Road) near Scottsville in Albemarle County.
The failure is located between Route 626 (Langhorne Road) and Route 627 (Porters Road). VDOT is flagging traffic past the scene. Motorists should expect delays.
One lane will remain closed on Route 6 until temporary repairs are completed. Crews will return to make permanent repairs in the coming weeks.

Virginia State Police Trooper T.M. Skehan is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Nelson County. The crash occurred Feb. 3, 2020 at 11:15 a.m. on Route 653, approximately 1.5 miles east of Route 29.
A 1998 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling along Route 653 when it ran off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to then run off the left side of the highway and overturn several times.
The driver, Winfred L. Washington, 65, of Lovingston, Va., was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.

Dozens of veterans from six states will receive
Specialized adaptive skiing and snowboarding lessons

Roughly two dozen veterans and active-duty military members including several honored for heroism in combat are heading to Wintergreen Resort this weekend to learn to ski and snowboard with specialized adaptive equipment and instruction.
Some are still suffering from the lingering effects of wartime traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs, a diagnosis back in the news now after a missile attack on a U.S. base in Iraq has sent 50 service members for treatment. Instructors with Wintergreen Adaptive Sports have been specially trained to work with veterans who have suffered traumatic brain injuries and other combat injuries.
The Warriors this weekend will be joined by their family members who, like the Warriors, will receive all services without charge.
Wintergreen Adaptive Sports instructors donate their time and expertise, resort property owners provide free lodging, and Wintergreen Resort provides event and meeting space. Wintergreen Adaptive Sports raises money all year, and seeks grants, to provide this service.
Ski and snowboard lessons begin Saturday morning and last through Sunday.
Just after noon on Monday rescue crews responded to a logging accident in Beech Grove of Nelson County. A man had been severely injured when a limb fell on him while cutting a tree.
A landing zone was set up in Beech Grove on a field of the small office center near Cub Creek Road. The patient was flown out to UVA Medical center with severe life threatening injuries.
The man later died from his injuries at UVA.
More updates will be provided as we have information.
”The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday (Jan. 16, 2020) in Nelson County.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a shooting inside a residence in the 500 block of Hunting Lodge Road in Wingina. A Nelson County adult male forced himself into the residence. A struggle ensued with two individuals inside the residence and shots were fired.
The Nelson County man was flown to UVA Medical Center where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
A firearm was recovered from inside the residence. There were three adults and five juveniles inside the residence at the time. None of them was injured during the incident.
The shooting remains under investigation at this time, with the assistance of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office. No charges have been placed.
