NCL spoke with Bo Holland, RVCC’s center manager this morning. Carlos Ramos of Afton also works part time at the center. According to Virginia State Poiice he feel asleep at the wheel and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic striking a car driven by William Shifflett of Afton. Bo tells us, “I went to see him at UVA –ER last night. Apparently he fell asleep on his way home from the night shift at DuPont. His van swerved and hit another car. The folks in the other car are fine. Carlos has a broken leg and either a broken or dislocated hip. They are not sure if he needs surgery, so I will have an update on that today,” she tells NCL by telephone Friday morning.

We’ll update more as we have it! And wish Mr. Ramos and the others involved in the accident well!

Mark your calendar for a great event taking place this weekend at The Rockfish Valley Community Center. A concert series named, Playtime, will be held to help raise money for a playground that’s being built at the center. The night kicks off with the Afton Ramblers at 6:30 PM. Then one hour later Kim & Jimbo Cary take the stage! At 8:30 PM The Virginia Ramblers entertain the crowd. The night is capped off with a very special performance by The Jan Smith Trio taking the stage at 9:30 PM.

It will be a fantastic night and a very worthy cause to help raise money for the much needed playground that will be constructed later this summer.

See you there!

Nelson County, Virginia
In a truly bizarre turn of events overnight, locusts have invaded Nelson County. Early this morning we received reports of the nasty little bugs lifting semi trucks and passenger cars right off of the road, flying them several miles away, then lightly dropping them in the backyard of area residents. “It sounded just like a freight train when it came over,” said one Nelson resident. Another said he heard this buzzing sound and though it was a big fly in his house until he looked outside and saw the flying bugs carrying a UPS truck right over his barn.

Not to worry, these locusts are friendly so we’re told, and they only appear on the 1st of April each year (wink, wink!)

By-the-way – Happy Anniversary! Nelson County Life Magazine, you are 4 years old today! REALLY!

Have a nice April Fools 2009!
