Yes, there’s always the traditional Easter Egg Hunt. But at MountainSide Petting Farm in Afton, Virginia, they added a little different flair to the normal Easter activities. Many of the pets showed off their finest in Easter apparel this year.

And not to forget the traditional Easter Bunny....well almost the traditional Easter Bunny.

The sky sometimes looked as though it might rain and the temperatures were not exactly Spring like as a cool and gusty northerly wind blew. But, the crazy weather didn’t stop lots of folks from turning out for the first Rockfish Valley Kite Festival this past Saturday just south of Nellysford, Virginia “I don’t think it’s snowed today, but it’s done everything else,” Peter Agelasto chuckles. Peter founded The Rockfish Valley Foundation that organized the event.

Thanks to Ann Strober and Yvette Stafford for grabbing some of these shots. ” I used to have kites when I was living in Savannah and we would fly them all the time,” says Richard Averitt of Nellysford. He and his family came out Saturday to fly kites at the festival. One of the kites he was flying with son Quinn was a stunt kite named The Cherry Bomb. “It’s pretty easy to fly and it doesn’t need a lot of wind, and it can take a lot of crashes, which is why we have it,” Richard laughs.

“Our goal is to bring the community together. And what better way to learn about the weather than by flying a kite. Benjamin Franklin taught us a thing or two about that,” Peter continues. He and his wife Betsy were part of a large kit flying organization years ago in Virginia Beach. Peter hopes to create similar enthusiasm here with the kite festival.

Mallory Crandall from Roseland is along for the trip. She’s sending us pictures back from time to time. The one above is a quick one sent Saturday morning. She tells us, “I’ll be adding more later, got to go to dinner and a play!” Sounds like they are having a blast!

We’ll be posting more pics and keeping you updated on their progress throughout Europe.

Congrats to all of the students and thanks to all of the people that donated money and time to help them get there!

Martins Store Substation BPL Update
April 10, 2009

Several customers have requested a map of the various headends so that when we mention progress on the various headends you have a better understanding of where we are talking about. This is more difficult than you might imagine since the electric grid does not always follow the roads and overlaying the grid on a map in a different format is not easy. The maps below are our first attempt. The first map outlines the various headends on the electric grid and has black lines for the three major roads. The line running north through Afton 1, 2, and 3 and Southwest through Nellysford is Rockfish Valley Highway (151); The line running Southwest to Northeast into Albemarle County is Highway 29 and the line connecting the two is Highway 6. The second map is a road map with the headends drawn in the same colors. We will continue to try and make the map easier to read.
We also wish to clarify a statement made last week, which has been pointed out by some of you as being misleading. When we stated that a number of new customers had been brought online during the week we did not mean that these were totally new signups, but just customers that had not previously been connected. Customers are being brought online as their segment of the network is configured and working, not in any other order, although those that signed up later than others may not yet have their CAUs installed and therefore may not be brought online at the same time as earlier signups.
We had an issue with the Afton 1 headend this week brought about by a unintentional network loop. Without trying to explain a network loop, suffice it to say that this caused the entire headend to come down until our engineers diagnosed and corrected the problem. We are continuing to make progress with the number of customers online doubling this week.

As always we thank you for your patience and want you to know that IBEC is committed to getting everyone online and surfing happily.

Thanks,
IBEC Customer Service

Area fire departments were pretty busy Thursday afternoon just before dark fighting a brush fire just off of Route 151 north of Nellysford, Virginia. Ann Strober who always sends in fantastic weather shots was nearby as firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.

Thick smoke rises from the fire Thursday afternoon.
