Wintergreen
Nelson County, Virginia
The Summer Weather could have been better for the 5K Walk-Run Sunday, hosted by Wintergreen Performing Arts. It just one of over 200 events that continues until August 2nd. Our Paul Purpura grabbed these shots from the race and other events taking place over the weekend as part of the festival.

49 year old Jonathon Perrotto came in first with a time of 20:10 in the men’s category. 29 year old Anja Zass placed first in the women’s category with a time of 23:36.
You can see all of the results by clicking here.

Paul tells us Saturday’s performance was sponsored by Don & Jan Burland, and, Fred & Jane Dalldorf, featuring the works of Joseph Haydn, Sir Edward Elgar, Samuel Barber, Richard Wagner and Benjamin Britten.

Wintergreen Resort
Nelson County, Virginia
With a bit of crispness in the air this weekend, it was a perfect time for the St. Andrews Legion Pipes and Drums from Richmond to perform in the mountains at Wintergreen Resort. The afternoon performance is part of Wintergreen Performing Arts’ Summer Music Festival. Our Paul Purpura grabbed these shots Saturday afternoon.

Wintergreen Performing Arts’ Summer Music Festival continues through the month of July until August 2nd of next month. More information at www.wintergrenperformingarts.org

It’s been such a quiet year or two for hurricanes that we forget the season actually started on June 1st. There is some activity out in the North Atlantic this weekend. Very far away from the eastern seaboard, but none the less Invest 97, as it’s called by www.wunderground.com is meandering around out there for now. It’s nothing more than a low pressure area with less than a 30% chance of tropical depression development in the next 48 hours, but as we get into the summer more and more, we’ll begin to see more of these developments that may or may not form into something more significant.
Dr. Jeff Masters talks more about it here in his synopsis.
We’ll keep an eye out if it should become anything of interest!

New York, NY
Rarely do we cover stories of national significance here on our site. But, this Friday evening we are making an exception. Veteran CBS Newsman Walter Cronkite is dead at age 92. He died in a NY hospital after being seriously ill over the past several days. Like most in my age group, we remember Cronkite either as a child watching black and white television with Cronkite reporting on stories that seemed a lifetime away back then. Others were already adults as he reported on news long before cable news was ever thought of.
My most vivid memory was that of Cronkite reporting on Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon. I was just a kid sitting in the floor shelling purple hull peas with my family, watching history being made.
Whether you like Cronkite or not, knew who he was or not, he certainly is a news legend.
