Night Search At Wintergreen Ends On Good Note : 6.14.10

Blue Ridge Overlook
Nelson County, Virginia

A search that was getting into high speed ended happily Monday night just after 10PM. Wintergreen Rescue and other area rescue teams were dispatched to the area of the Blue Ridge overlook to look for a missing resident of the mountain. Wintergreen Fire Chief, Curtis Sheets, tells NCL they were informed of the person being overdue and not returning home for about three hours. Chief Sheets went on to say the person may have been affect with Alzheimer’s and lost her way back home.

No sooner than a helicopter had been dispatched and other crews assembled, the person was found not too far from her home on Devils Knob. Other than minor scrapes, she appeared to be okay.

It was a busy weekend across Nelson as the summer season is kicking into full gear. Grand Discovery Days highlighted Saturday and Sunday’s events all over the county as part of the Nelson Scenic Loop.

Another stop on the NSL was Skylark Farm just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway northwest of Montebello. It's best known for its nearby Christmas Tree Farm.

Junior Ranger Camp at Humpback

Humpback Rocks Mountain Farm on the Blue Ridge Parkway will hold a Junior Ranger Camp for ages 8-12 on June 30, July 1 & 2 from 10-2PM. You must register in advance and space is limited. There is a fee. Call 540-943-4716.
