Two years ago this Thursday (11.18.10) the doors officially opened at Devils Backbone Brewing Company.

DBBC Founder, Steve Crandall, stands in what eventually became the bar area at Devils Backbone. This photo was taken several weeks before the November 2008 grand opening.

To commemorate two years, DBBC will have a special celebration this Thursday evening. Music from the Missiissippi Leghound, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, giveaways and more great beer! They are tabulating stats on the number of pints poured, how many pub pickles served.

The first one hundred entering through the big walnut doors will receive a surprise!

Call at 434.361.1001 for more information.

Packed. That’s the word we would use to describe the 7th Annual Oyster Roast over at Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery. You couldn’t have custom ordered better weather for this weekend’s event.

Yes, it's all about the oysters, but let's not forget the CP wine!

We’ve been telling you about the annual event in Afton for years.

Rappahannock River Oyster Company provides the yummy oysters each year at the annual event.
They annual oyster roast has become a highly anticipated festival at Cardinal Point.

4-time World Shucking Champion, Deborah Pratt, and her sister, Clementine Macon, ensured that CP kept up with the demand.
On Saturday The Cashmere Jungle Lord entertained the crowd, on Sunday it was Jolie Fille (fun cajun punk).

The weather provided a perfect backdrop for this year's roast.

Hard as they may have tried, the Nelson County High Governors couldn’t pull out a win for their final game of the season. Alta Vista shut out The Govs by a score of 41-0. Nelson had only one winning game this entire season, their homecoming, against Chatham at the end of October. The Govs end the season 1-9.

Our NCL Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura has tirelessly made the trip to most every game this season. He was there for this final one. Paul tells us,” They played their hearts out as usual,” but in the end it wasn’t enough.

Another heart breaking play. Nelson Wide Reciver Andre Thompson just misses this pass. He is pursued by Defensive back Robert Yuille of Alta Vista.
All seniors in the band, cheerleading squad, and football team received recognition before the game. Their names were announced along with who was escorting them, their school activities, along with what they wanted to do after graduation.
