“Unbelievable,” That’s how Ray Uttaro described it Wednesday afternoon when he dropped by NCL to pickup items left so far for the 2 Nelson families we told you about in this original article. For years Ray has been quietly helping out families in the Nelson area at Christmas. “When I first got to Nelson it was a tough time, I had very little. There were people that stepped up and helped me out way back then. I have never forgotten it. I always said if I had the chance later in life to help people out I would,” Ray told us.
One family in Nelson even sprung for the Wii that one family’s youngster said would be a dream to get.
There’s still time to drop more off and the need is still great.

Wintergreen Gets New Ice Skating Rink Ready For Weekend Opening

No worries about the ice thawing at the soon to open Shamokin Ice Rink at Wintergreen Resort. The newly completed ice skating rink is scheduled to open to the public this coming weekend. Though there’s plenty of modern refrigeration to keep the ice perfect, temps haven’t broken freezing at Wintergreen all week long.
The new ice rink is just one of many improvements the resort made during the past year.

Blue Mountain Tuesday Tasting -Smoked Beer & Chocolate

For our Tuesday tasting tonight we’re doing a unique pairing of smoked beers (Rauchbiers) with very bizarre chocolates. All the beers are the Aecht Schlenkerla line of beers from Bamburg’s Heller-Trum brewery (which are made with malt smoked over beechwood harvested outside the brewery), and the chocolates are delicious concoctions from Vosges Haut Chocolat. Aecht Schlenkerla Marzen with Mo’s Bacon Bar (Applewood smoked bacon and alderwood smoked salt with 45% cacao milk chocolate)
Aecht Sclenkerla Urbock with Mo’s Dark Bacon Bar (Applewood smoked bacon and alderwood smoked salt with 62% cacao dark chocolate)
Aecht Schlenkerla Doppelbock, again paired with more Mo’s Dark Bacon Bar
And for the strangest twist on “dessert” you’ve ever seen, we’ll be pairing the sweet smokey flavors of Aecht Schlenkerla Weizen with Vosges Red Fire Bar, a Mexican ancho and chipotle-chillie and Ceylon cinnamon-infused 55% cacao chocolate bar.

Bouncers Brave Wind Chills Near 0° To Raise Money For Nelson Pantry

The temperatures hovered around 20° Tuesday night with winds gusting as high as 34 MPH while the crew and other volunteers continued Bouncing For Hams outside of Devils Backbone Brewing. We first told you about the planned event a few days ago. The goal of the 24 hour bounce is to raise enough money for 330 hams for The Nelson County Pantry will donate to needy families this Christmas. “We’re want to do something really special for the community for the holidays. We’re using this as an opportunity to raise money for needy families in the county,” Brian Coe, Assistant Manager at DBBC tells NCL. Brian was there Tuesday night bundled up to the max, jumping away as well!
The event runs through the night and all day until 6PM Tuesday evening. They are asking people to drop by and donate, volunteer to jump for a bit, or just buy something to eat on Tuesday. “Come out on December 14th and dine, 10% of our non-alcoholic revenue is going to be donated to the pantry,” Brian continues. There’s also a box at the front hostess station where people can simply drop in a donation.
You know it’s cold down there, so help these folks out, so they can help others this Christmas!

Great Weekend Start At Wintergreen Resort

Though rain and fog moved in for the second half of the weekend, Saturday was perfect for the first weekend of the season at Wintergreen Resort. The snow making conditions have been excellent over the past couple of weeks, and, very cold weather headed our way in the coming week means ideal conditions once again to make more snow. NCL Mountain Photographer, Paul Purpura, got on the skis and grabbed a few shots as people hit the slopes for the first weekend of opening season.
Looks like the season is off to a fantastic start with more perfect skiing weather on the way!

Yoga in Stoney Creek/Nellysford
Event Details:
Iyengar (hatha) yoga class led by Shaaron Honeycutt in a beautiful and spacious facility, right in “downtown” Nellysford at the Tuckahoe Club House.
Classes on Sunday, Dec. 12th. Class begins at 9 a.m. and runs through to 10:30 a.m.
This is a multi-level class, for both beginners and those with experience. Check it out!
