Building Goodness Foundation and Nelson County Homebuilders joined volunteers with the Rockfish Valley Community Center this past Saturday – May 4th 2013 to tear off the old roof at the community center that was once the Rockfish Elementary School for decades. The roof over what was once the Hamner Theater has some rotting deck boards and shingles that were worn.

Talk about raising money! This year’s Relay For Life in Nelson County surpassed over $94,000 according to the American Cancer Society’s page for Nelson. And that’s not even the final figures!

The coolness of this past weekend was just right for the annual The Virginia Fly Fishing Festival held April 20th and 21st in Waynesboro, VA. It’s held outside each spring on the banks of the South River. 2013 was the 13th annual festival.

With just a touch of coolness in the air it was the perfect setting for the Rocktown Beer & Music Festival held on Saturday – April 20, 2013 in Harrisonburg, VA. Around 3000 tickets were sold to the event. And it was a bang up success! The event was presented by Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance partnering along with Blue Mountain Brewery based right here in Nelson where we are.

With just a slight chill in the air, but plenty of full sunshine, the annual Nelson County Community Day was a huge success. The event is hosted by Giving Hope Foundation, Inc.
All proceeds from this event benefitted the Giving Hope Foundation helping to support cancer patients in Nelson County.

The has ended this Sunday for a missing 63 year old man who got separated from his church group while hiking Saturday afternoon along the Spy Rock Trail in SW Nelson County on Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2013. “He was located just west of Spy Rock, he has some knee injuries we know, how bad we are still waiting to see,” said Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks. The hiker had been missing for almost 24 hours.

Brooks told BRML that approximately 12 active teams participated in the search, including tracking dogs, helicopters, horseback riders, ATV’s and hikers.

It’s official! Wild Wold Brewing has joined the ranks of canned craft beer in Nelson. They recently canned their Alpha Ale and their American Pilsner. BRLM Publisher Tommy Stafford and Jr. Publisher Adam Stafford were there Thursday afternoon for lunch when learning about the great news and made the very first purchase of the craft beers in cans.
The six pack closure that holds the cans together is made from nearly 100% recycled material and is environmentally safe and friendly to birds and other animals.
Right now the canned beers are available for purchase in the bar area at Wild Wolf Brewing in Nellysford. Be looking for more exciting news from WW soon!
