CBS-19’s Rachel Ryan with our media partner at The Newsplex tells us no new details were learned at an 8pm press conference held at Tye River Elementary by the Nelson Sheriff’s office. A command post has been setup there. Rachel says they read a statement, refused any questions by media, and would not allow family to talk to media.
The search continues.

Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks confirms to BRLM this Monday afternoon that his department and other lawmen, including the FBI and Virginia State Police are involved in a search for a missing 17 year old Nelson County girl.
“We will have a helicopter up in the Lovingston area looking this afternoon,” said Sheriff Brooks.
Sheriff Brooks says 17 year old Alexis Murphy (in photo above) has been missing since this past weekend. She was believed to be heading to Lynchburg in a white 2003 Nissan Maxima with Virginia license plates WYN3706.
We are awaiting more detailed information now and will update shortly.

She said that changes priorities in life and she needed the flexibility BRLM will allow while still doing what she loves. “I love the advertising and the print business, love seeing my ideas come to life. The people are my favorite. Love being able to help grow and expand their business. Both counties and the entire Blue Ridge area are very special to me. I’ve lived here my entire life, all my family is here. Many generations have lived in both counties,” Kelly adds.
Kelly’s no amateur. She’s come up with many ad products over the years, and won Virginia Press Association Sales Professional of the year for 2011.

Here’s Hayley’s story in her own words. Help if you can.
My sweet dog, Pogo (Pogey), was just diagnosed with a Cystadenoma on his left hock. This diagnosis is typically not a life threatening situation. Veterinarians usually recommend amputating the leg, which is a guaranteed method for eliminating the tumor forever. Even though this seems like a drastic measure it is actually a viable option for many dogs. There are many happy healthy three-legged dogs in the world——- I know this because Pogey himself is one.
As a two year old he was found in Charlottesville, Virginia as a stray. He had been hit by a car and left with a completely damaged right hind leg. The local SPCA decided to give Pogey another chance at life and instead of euthanasia, which is usually the option for strays that come in with such severe injuries— they instead decided to grant Pogo a new life and paid for the surgery to amputate his leg. Shortly after his operation a family adopted him. He adjusted well to his new life and lived happily in the country on a huge farm. Unfortunately, 4 months after his adoption the family had to suddenly move back to California – but Pogo stayed. A few weeks later I took over the lease. On move in day I drove up to what I had expected: an empty farmhouse. I walked up to the front door, opened it and went inside. Moments later as I was looking around, I heard the unexpected sound of the door swing open behind me. To my surprise-there he was- a sweet and charming three-legged pup. Pogo had come to welcome me to our new home.
Pogey and I have a great life together. I am able to take him everywhere with me. He is gentle and sociable. I have never thought about how much better his life would be if only he had another leg. He has never once shown me that he doesn’t seem perfectly content with the way he is. But now with his recent diagnosis I am worried. He has no reserve. And sadly the tumor is aggressive enough that it will keep growing and eventually cut off circulation to his one hind leg.
Hayley’s dog Pogo is already missing one leg from an accident years ago.
The upside to all of this is that my veterinarian has spoken at length with the Veterinary Oncology Department at NC State. They feel confident that with 16 doses of radiation on Pogey’s hind leg we will be able to grant him many more comfortable and active years. Pogey’s total treatment will cost $5,500 at NC STATE. Unfortunately, it is too expensive for me. I spent my savings on the initial surgery in July with the hope of removing the tumor then. To everyone’s disappointment it was unsuccessful. I am now approaching my last semester at school and am living off of student loans. I would love to be able to send him to NC State for treatment but I cannot without financial assistance.
Pogey is loving, playful, and resilient. He is a best friend and a loving companion. He has seen me through two surgeries and a multitude of “ups and downs”. I would love to be able to repay the favor to this sweet friend. With your generosity I will be able to ease his pain and increase his mobility. With radiation Pogey can regain his “normal” life and return to his spunky self-just like the pup that pushed his way through the screen door four years ago and directly into my heart.
I would be so incredibly blessed to have my dear friend with me for the years ahead. I am humbly asking for your consideration in donating to Pogey’s treatment.
We applied to the Magic Bullet Fund (MBF) for help and they have accepted our application. MBF is a fund that helps people like me, who have a dog with cancer and can’t afford treatment. The Fund is donating part of the cost and will help us to raise the rest of it.

“Update: Wednesday, July 31, 2013 5:20pm
Good news! The repair has been made. Our technicians are in the process of slowly filling the 12” line and will be working on releasing the air out of the system. Our tank levels are back up and service is slowly coming back on. You may experience air in your lines for a short period of time.

VIRGINIA STATE POLICE ARREST SCHUYLER WOMAN
FOLLOWING TRAFFIC CRASH
NELSON CO. – A Schuyler woman is behind bars following a traffic crash in Nelson County Saturday evening (July 27, 2013).
At approximately 5 p.m., Virginia State Police Senior Trooper E.D. Everhart was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rte 6 and Rte 639. A 1991 Ford Taurus traveling east on Route 6 ran off the right side of the road and up an embankment.
The Faber Volunteer Fire Department was first to arrive on scene. As fire department personnel approached the Taurus to render aid to its driver, the woman pulled out a handgun and pointed it at them. The woman finally complied with their commands and dropped the weapon, just moments before the trooper arrived on scene. No shots were fired at the volunteer fire and EMS personnel. The female driver was not injured in the crash.
During the course of the crash investigation, the woman became combative and was finally placed under arrest and, with the assistance of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, transported to the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. A search of the woman’s purse revealed a set of brass knuckles also in her possession.
Samantha D. Tyree-Vest, 25, of Schuyler, Va., was charged with 1st offense DUI, reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm, and possession of brass knuckles.
A woman who crashed a car in Nelson County Saturday afternoon brandished a gun at firefighters and others who tried to help her, authorities say.
The crash happened on Route 6 east of Route 29 in Faber. Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks tells Blue Ridge Life Magazine that the woman was under the influence of alcohol and possibly something else.
Neighbors who heard the crash tell the Newsplex they ran over to check on the woman involved. They say she appeared to be uninjured, but as they tried to help, she pulled out a gun.
Firefighters from the Faber Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene, and Brooks said she once again brandished a firearm. Firefighters were able to get the woman to put the gun down, and they pulled her out of the car.
The woman, who has not been identified, is in custody at the sheriff’s office. Brooks says no one was injured in the crash.
Virginia State Police are handling the investigation.

Talk about nice! WOW! What a change we all woke up to Thursday morning. No rain, clearing skies, cooler temps and much less humidity! Here at BRLM we picked up another 1.30 inches of rain Wednesday night in just under an hour. That brings us to 6.88″ for the month and just under 30″ for the year so far. Most of that falling since May 1, 2013.
