Moderate rainfall didn’t stop a large crowd from turning out Thursday night in support of missing Nelson County teen, Alexis Murphy. The 17 year old Shipman, Virginia girl has been missing since the evening of August 3, 2013.
Emotions ran high at Thursday’s vigil with at least two people fainting either from high humidity, exhaustion or simply from the stress of not know where missing Alexis Murphy is.
Meanwhile the search continues.
Near Lovingston

In what may be related to the search for missing Alexis Murphy, motorists have been reporting a large Wintergreen Fire Department vehicle on Route 29 North in the vicinity of Sunny Mountain Store. It was being followed closely by a marked Nelson County Sheriff’s car. Men could be seen on top of the fire truck looking to the sides.
Wintergreen Fire Chief Curtis Sheets was contacted and tells BRLM, “We were asked to assist law enforcement. It’s on loan to them at this time. Other than a driver our crews are not involved or manning the truck.”
BRLM is attempting to get additional information.
Lovingston

The FBI has released two still frame photographs from surveillance video taken on August 3, 2013 at the Liberty Gas Station in Lovingston, VA. The video is the last known place Alexis Murphy was actually seen before her disappearance.

On October 24th of this year it will have been 6 years since Blue Mountain Brewery opened their doors for business. Since then they have essentially doubled in size at their current location in Afton and added another totally separate location in Colleen with the opening of their Barrel House. But behind the beer it’s all about the hops!
Blue Mountain first put in a small hop farm around the time they opened back in 2007, and the harvest has become a favorite way to celebrate the hops that go into some of beers brewed in Afton.
Folks that dropped by to help out were treated to a complimentary lunch!

“We need the public’s help.” Those were the words echoed by Nelson County, VA Sheriff David Brooks, family members of missing 17 year old Alexis Murphy, and the FBI at an 4:40 PM press conference held in Lovingston Wednesday afternoon. No new details about the investigation were reveals, but lawmen and family members said it was essential that anyone with any information, however small, please come forward.

Donna Taylor of Nelson County just contacted us and wanted the word put out of a candlelight vigil that will be held Thursday night – August 8, 2013 at the Nelson County High School Football field. The time of the event is 7:30 PM. Donna is asking people to please bring extra candles.
Albemarle County, VA
BRLM broke the story Tuesday evening, the car missing Nelson County teen Alexis Murphy was driving had been found in neighboring Albemarle County. Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks confirmed the car was located as he was on the way to the scene. Our media partners at CBS-19 / The Newsplex in Charlottesville photos from the scene back. In the picture above crime scene tape secures the area just after the car was found on the parking lot of Carmike Cinema on Route 29 North of Charlottesville.
The Newsplex’s Rachel Ryan was the first reporter on the scene and spoke with the young man who alerted police to the vehicle. He says he is friends with the Murphy family and found the car around 8 p.m. on Tuesday. He says he does not know how long it has been parked at the theater.
Meanwhile, Nelson Sheriff Brooks says the search continues and will be full throttle until Alexis is located.

Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks is confirming to BRLM that the car driven by missing Nelson teen Alexis Murphy has been located in Albemarle County on Route 29 north. BRLM is working with our Media partners at CBS-19 in Charlottesville now. Rachel Ryan is making the scene and we will have more shortly.

After just under two years working from this location and that location, Giving Hope Foundation has an official home. This past Saturday – August 3, 2013 the foundation that was established to assist cancer patients with specific needs from finances to other support, cut the ribbon on the new 4201 Thomas Nelson Highway location in Colleen. That’s southern Nelson County.
The mission statement of the organization on their web page reads:
The Giving Hope Foundation believes every cancer patient deserves a sense of normalcy while focusing on healing in their fight against cancer. Our mission is to help them achieve this by providing them with financial and human resources while battling cancer. We will assist cancer patients and families in obtaining services to maximize their ability to overcome cancer.
