Updated: 10:00 AM EDT : 8.31.16
According to this Facebook post (immediately below this paragraph) to our page, Kirby was enroute back to NJ with his mother. We have no independent confirmation as Sparta, NJ Police have not returned any of our calls inquiring about information.

Updated: 9:05 PM EDT:
According to a Facebook post to one of our pages, Kirby was located and given a ride to Charlottesville around 5PM Tuesday afternoon. We are trying to confirm this with friends and / or family.

Original Post from 5:10 PM EDT below:
The website Live For Live Music first reported the story of Micky Kirby going missing after attending the Lockn’ Festival in Nelson County, Virginia over this past weekend.

The story started going viral on Facebook soon afterwards. BRL began trying to confirm the authenticity of the story and was able to reach out to a close friend and co-worker, Michael Tonner and another friend Brendan Peterson in Sparta NJ who attended the festival with Kirby. They last saw their friend Sunday morning at Lockn.

“There have been no official reports of said individual to us,” Nelson County, Virginia Sheriff David Hill told BRL late Tuesday afternoon. Rescue officials we spoke with in Nelson said they’d received no reports either.

BRL contacted Sparta, NJ police around 5:30 PM Tuesday for comment and are awaiting a call back from their detective division.

In interviews with Kirby’s friends, they were told either authorities or family have learned that a VDOT worker saw Kirby walking along US 29 early Tuesday morning and that his debit card was used around 7AM at Shady’s Exxon on US-29 in the Woods Mill area of Nelson County near the intersection of Route 6 River Road and US 29. It’s believed his cell phone was lost.

BRL also received comments from readers of this story just before 6PM Tuesday evening reporting they had seen Kirby walking on US 29 Tuesday morning.

BRL was able to speak to Michael Tonner by telephone just after 4PM Tuesday. That interview is below.
In a followup phone call with Michael around 6:15 PM Tuesday, he said though Kirby had been spotted early Tuesday morning as indicated above, no one has heard from him since.

If anyone has information on Micky Kirby’s whereabouts you are urged to contact local law enforcement or Michael Tonner (616) 329-4894 and Brendan Peterson (973) 459-1888 immediately.

Afton
Nelson County, Virginia

Back in November of 2015 we told you about a dispute between Barefoot Bucha and E. & J. Gallo Winery over the use of the word Barefoot in the naming of their kombucha tea.

Today we received the following information from Conscious Cultures, LLC, the owners of Barefoot Bucha kombucha tea”

Conscious Cultures, LLC, owner of Barefoot Bucha kombucha tea, and E. & J. Gallo Winery, owner of the BAREFOOT wine brand, are pleased to announce that they have reached a settlement in a trademark infringement lawsuit. Gallo filed the federal suit in April 2016 due to concerns that consumers were confused by the similarity of the two names. Under the settlement, Conscious Cultures’ owners Ethan and Kate Zuckerman, while not admitting any wrongdoing, have agreed to change the name of their kombucha tea brand. Says Kate, “We have amicably settled our differences out of court. We are relieved to put this behind us so that we can continue to focus on bringing kombucha drinkers in our area a delicious and healthful beverage using a low waste model.”

The company is now looking towards the future by launching an innovative contest to crowdsource its new name. “During the events of the past year, it has been amazing to feel the outpouring of support from our community,” says co-owner Ethan Zuckerman. “As a small local business, our customers are our greatest asset. We would like to honor that by actively involving them in this crucial moment for the company. We are excited to open this up to our community and trust that a great new identity will emerge. We will all be able to look back and say that we did this together.”

The winner will receive a year’s worth of kombucha, courtesy of Barefoot Bucha and the winner’s local Whole Foods Market. Says Kate, “Whole Foods customers have embraced the sustainable values of our refillable bottle model and have been an integral part of our company’s growth over the past five years. We’ve also created successful collaboration brews with several of the stores, so partnering for the renaming contest was another great way for our companies to work together.” If the contest winner does not live near a Whole Foods Market in Virginia or Washington, D.C., or Maryland, an alternate prize will be offered.

Barefoot Bucha is encouraging contest applicants to enter any of the following elements: a name, logo art, and/or tagline. Contest entries can be submitted online at: www.barefootbucha.com/namethatbucha. Full contest details are available on the website. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 12th.

Barefoot Bucha is a family-owned small business that is known for its innovative, sustainable method of getting its product to the market. The company has set up various fountains in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., where customers can get fresh, Certified Organic kombucha on draft. Customers buy a bottle, which they then own, and can refill as many times as they want. Since 2010, Barefoot Bucha drinkers have saved over 400,000 bottles through the company’s refillable bottle model.

Nelson : Grand Opening of Wood Ridge Farm Brewery – September 10th

Woods Mills
Nelson County, Virginia

Wood Ridge Farm Brewery will host a Grand Opening on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00am at its taproom (165 Old Ridge Road, Lovingston, VA 22949). Wood Ridge Farm Brewery is in the Wood’s Mill section of Nelson County near the intersections of Routes 29 and 6.

Although Wood Ridge Farm Brewery is the first farm brewery in Nelson County, it is the fifth brewery in Nelson County. One of Nelson County’ tag lines is “Nelson County – More Breweries than Stoplights”. Wood Ridge Farm has over 300 acres in grain production; all wheat, barley, rye and oats used by the Brewery are malted and roasted on the farm at the Wood’s Mill Malt House. Wood Ridge Farm Brewery is the only brewery in Virginia which grows, malts and roasts 100% of the grains used in its ales and beers. This use of our own, Virginia-grown grain for the beer makes Wood Ridge Farm distinctive in the Virginia (and American) beer scene. The Brewery will also be using some of the Farm’s hops and yeast in its product.

‘Farm-to-table’ has become an important element of the local food movement. We have adapted this to the world of beer, and our motto is ‘From the Dirt to the Glass’. Through regular weekend tours, Brewery staff will show guests the steps taken to produce that tasty liquid in their glass (from the farm fields to the malting house to the brewing vessels to the taproom pints).

The Brewery itself is housed in a distinctive two-story building constructed of lumber from Wood Ridge Farm. There are 12 different types of lumber that make up the floorboards of the first floor alone. The tap house overlooks the Farm with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. Both the upstairs and downstairs taprooms have remarkable 270-degree views of Nelson County’s scenic beauty. The rocking chairs on the second floor balcony overlooking the fields and will be especially popular on weekend days.
The head brewer is Nicholas Payson, formerly of Winnetou Brauerei of Mount Airy, NC. He was trained in Germany and worked at several breweries in Germany.

We look forward to contribute to the excellence of the Virginia Craft Beer scene and to add to Nelson County’s Brew Ridge Trail”
