It’s been a long time coming, but the trees are finally starting to turn with brilliant color in the higher elevations of the Blue Ridge in places such as Wintergreen, Montebello, Humpback, Big Meadows, and more along the BRP and Skyline Drive.
With temps in the 80s and 90s recently, it hasn’t felt much like fall, but that’s about to change dramatically in the next day or so!

Wallops Island, VA‘
The weather Sunday night was about as perfect as it gets for viewing the launch of Orbital ATK’s Antares Rocket from Wallops Island on the Eastern Shore. However, the launch has been delayed at least 24 hours.
Above in the video, three years ago Publisher Yvette Stefford and Junior Publisher Adam Stafford went there to see another launch. Very Cool!
Not to worry, the weather on Monday evening looks equally great!
With good visibility, the launches can easily be seen here in the Central Virginia Blue Ridge.

As of Friday evening October 7th, Matthew continues to move northward along the east coast of Florida toward the Carolinas. It appears he will hook right somewhere in that vicinity with no direct impacts to the Mid-Atlantic. South Floridians dodged a major hurricane. There’s still a threat to North Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. As Hurricane Matthew heads northward beyond the Florida coastline, the impact on the inland Mid-Atlantic region by the end of the week into the Columbus Day weekend, as of now, looks very minimal with no effects, but we will have an increased chance of showers into the first half of the weekend as moisture gets pulled into the area.
Immediately below is a Friday evening discussion by CBS-19 Meteorologist David Reese discussing minimal impacts here in the Blue Ridge.
This is the last update we will do on Matthew here on our page unless it again becomes a direct threat to the Blue Ridge area of Virginia.
