A line of storms became extremely violent as they worked their way down into Central Virginia Monday afternoon causing a lot of damage leaving many still without power as Tuesday begins.

Though some isolated severe storms were expected with the hot weather and high humidity, the bowing line of storms that moved out of West Virginia and down from Harrisonburg weren’t expected to become so strong. But they did.

As indicated above, early Tuesday morning Central Virginia Electric reports around 1100 customers are still without power from Monday’s storms.

In the photo immediately above this large tree fell on a hour in Afton. “We had a big maple tree fall on and through our house. We had sudden twisting wind here, and the whole tree twisted off. It looks like it exploded, with branches all around the tree,” Meredith Ackroyd commented to our Facebook page.

There’s a continued chance for more storms, some severe in the afternoon and evening, for the next two to three days.

Finger crossed we miss them this time!
