…ENHANCED THREAT FOR THE SPREAD OF FIRES TODAY…

Minimum relative humidity values will fall to between 25 and 30
percent this afternoon across portions of northwestern Maryland
east of the Allegheny Front, the Shenandoah Valley, central and
northern Virginia and central and southern Maryland from Baltimore
southward through the Washington DC metro. Sustained southwest
winds between 15 and 20 mph with frequent gusts of 20 to 25 mph
are also expected during this time. The combination of gusty
winds, low relative humidity and very low fuel moisture will
enhance the threat for the spread of fires this afternoon into
early evening.

Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential
ignition source, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Be
sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses
and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread
quickly. Please check with local officials regarding any open
burning laws.

Nice Soaking Rainfall Across The Blue Ridge Over Past Two Days

0
Looking at the graphs above (very bottom of the graph) for the period April 23 to 6 AM Wednesday – April 25 you can see a nice slow soaking rainfall fell across the area. Click photo to enlarge.

Central Virginia Blue Ridge

Though we’ll still see some scattered showers across the Blue Ridge Area today, they will be tapering off as we head into the afternoon and evening with clearing skies overnight. The bulk of the rain fell over the past couple of days. Our BRL-Nature Foundation At Wintergreen station had picked up about 3.25″ of rain by 6AM Wednesday morning with our BRL-Ski Barn valley station down at the foot of the mountain getting just under three inches of rain.

You can see rainfall totals from our other BRL WeatherNow stations by clicking here.

If you like warmer spring like weather, you’re about to be very, very happy! Above, I talk about a real warm up starting as we end April and head into May!

Nelson County, Virginia

By Tommy Stafford

In just a few weeks the doors to Tuckahoe School in Nellysford’s Stoney Creek will close for good. For three decades it’s been a part of Linda Robert’s life. She will retire once the school closes.

“I don’t know. A little more time. I’m going to make a quilt. I’m getting a new kayak I’ll have some choices. There’s so many things because, it permeates, it affects my recycling, because there are always things I can put in our collage bin. It affects shopping. It affects my reading. It affects so much of my life because children are always asking questions,” Linda told us in a recent interview.

Above watch my video story with Linda as she reflects on her time at Tuckahoe.

Linda went on to tell us that it was a good time to call it quits and end on a high note. The lease for the building is up in the near future, one of her teachers already announced this would be her last year, and for Linda it was time to rest a bit more, but not walk totally away from education.

“Maybe with children, maybe in some sort of advisory capacity with somebody younger just starting out.”

There will be a special Farewell Open House held on Tuesday – May 22, 2018 from 6 to 8 P.M. for anyone that wants to come by and reflect, remember and say so long to Tuckahoe School and the staff.

We will miss you Ms Linda!

VSP Investigates Fatal Augusta County Crash

0

Release via Virginia State Police:

Virginia State Police Trooper A.J. Garasimowicz is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred April 18, 2018, at 6 p.m. on Route 919, three miles north of Route 620.

A 2008 Scion was traveling north on Route 919 when it ran off the right side of the highway. The driver overcorrected the vehicle, which caused it to cross over the road and run off the left side of the highway and strike a fence. It then overturned several times before coming to rest in a field.

The driver and passenger were both ejected from the vehicle. Neither one was wearing a seat belt.

The passenger, Rochelle A. Vaughn, 28, of Stuarts Draft, Va., died at the scene.

The driver, Jonathan W. LaClair, 23, of Steeles Tavern, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
