14th Annual Golf Classic

Banner

What are you doing Columbus Day weekend? Coming to the 14th Annual Golf Classic and Silent Auction, Friday, October 5, 2007 at the Stoney Creek Golf Course. We’ve moved this event from Labor Day weekend so players can enjoy the newly remodeled Tuckahoe course. This annual event raises thousands of dollars every year to help underwrite the Foundation’s important work at Wintergreen and with school children from surrounding communities. To register please fill out the online form or call Jennifer at (434)325-7453.

This event is fun for property owners and guests. There will be hole-in-one contests on every par three so players have an opportunity to win a new car, sponsored by Volvo of Charlottesville, Elliott Chevrolet, Haynes Jeep Chrysler, McDonough Toyota, Snead Ford, and Staunton Hyundai. Players can also shoot for $1,000,000 in the Million Dollar Shoot-Out, sponsored by Shenandoah Valley Office Equipment. Prizes will be given to teams wi th the lowest net score on Shamokin, Monocan and Tuckahoe courses. And ladies if you put a team together with spouses or your best girlfriends there will be special prizes just for you!

Last year players had the chance to buy a Super Ticket, this ticket was so popular we are offering it again. By purchasing a Super Ticket when you register, you will receive 50/50 raffle tickets, mulligans and cocktail tickets for the Silent Auction Social Hour when you sign in at the tournament Friday morning.

Even if you are not a golfer come by the tent to bid on the beautiful items in the silent auction and join us for the awards ceremony dinner. This is the premier golf tournament at Wintergreen this year. Don’t miss it.

Come out to enjoy the sun and greens with great golf in good company!

Nellysford, Virginia

If you like old cars then Nellysford was the place to be Saturday! John & Sarah Holman of Stoney Creek & manager / owners of Valley Green Center, sponsored the event so folks could come out and take a peek at some of the nicest classic rides you can find.

It wasn’t just about cars, there were all kinds of classics. Above center, John Holman checks out the two wheeled variety.

Yep, it meets the state requirements for the plates!

old & newer
Old car & not as old car….kinda

Not the national bird, nor the kind this dog would retrieve, but still a very nice ride!

Chincoteague Ponies

What a great shot Jeff Stone of Wintergreen Winery in Beech Grove captured while on the Eastern Shore. No it’s not Nelson, but we always enjoy a great scene like this, and Jeff is Nelson, so there!

Whew, Thursday was a hot one, really hot. We cracked the 100 degree mark again hitting 102 here at the office in Greenfield. Many of the NCL-Weathernet stations hit 100 before the day was over. They even made it near 90 upon Devil’s Knob as well. Today will be warm but not the 100 + temps and this weekend will be much nicer with lower humidity. Chances for rain diminish over the weekend, returning again by late Sunday night and the first of the week.

Speaking of rain, we didn’t see much across the immediate area last night. Though severe weather did break out like we predicted in Thursday’s forecast. Major damage occurred just up I-64 toward Goochland and Louisa, as far east as Richmond. Many power lines and trees are down in some areas. – I can’t rule out some random thunderstorm activity today, but better chances will be south toward Piney River and Amherst. You can see the severe weather outline has shifted slightly south and east on Friday’s map.

The latest on Hurricane Dean. He continues to move westward in the Atlantic as it heads toward the gulf. Again, I am not concerned over this storm yet, let’s see what he does by Sunday. If there is any motion toward the mainland U.S. I will have a special update over the weekend. I don’t see this making any considerable change in direction before then.

Nelson : Special Weather Update from NCL Updated 4:17 PM EDT

Updated: 4:17 PM EDT
The area of concern in the northern half of Virginia has stabilized. There is still some concern for severe weather in Central and Southern Virginia over the next few hours, but the threat has diminished somewhat.

Keeping an eye on it.
-T-

The atmosphere over the Central Virginia area is becoming very unstable currently. Over the next few hours severe weather is expected to develop. The Storm Prediction Center is considering a watch for our area as indicated below. There discussion is below the map.

I will be watching situation and update accordingly.

THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP AND INTENSIFY OVER PARTS OF WRN VA AND
SPREAD EWD. OTHER STORMS MAY ALSO DEVELOP OVER SERN VA. CONVECTIVE
TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR A POSSIBLE WW WITHIN THE NEXT 1 TO 2
HOURS.

THIS AFTERNOON AN MCV WAS OBSERVED OVER SRN NJ…AND THIS FEATURE
WILL CONTINUE EWD AND OFFSHORE. THE ATMOSPHERE APPEARS TO HAVE
UNDERGONE TEMPORARY LARGE SCALE SUBSIDENCE IN WAKE OF THE MCV AND
THIS MAY BE PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LACK OF BOUNDARY LAYER
CUMULUS SO FAR. HOWEVER…LATEST SATELLITE TRENDS SHOW CUMULUS
BEGINNING TO BECOME A LITTLE MORE WIDESPREAD ALONG THE WV-VA BORDER
WITH OTHER CUMULUS INCREASING IN VICINITY OF A WEAK BOUNDARY ACROSS
SERN VA. MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES IN WAKE OF MCV AND DEWPOINTS IN THE
UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S ARE RESULTING IN MODERATE MLCAPE WITH STRONGER
INSTABILITY OVER ERN VA WHERE RICHER LOW LEVEL MOISTURE EXISTS. THE
CAP WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER WARMS…AND STORMS
ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER HIGHER TERRAIN OF WRN VA AND SPREAD
EWD. BELT OF STRONGER MID LEVEL FLOW OVER THE NRN HALF OF VA IS
RESULTING IN 35 TO 40 KT VERTICAL SHEAR WHICH IS SUFFICIENT FOR
ORGANIZED MULTICELLS AND POSSIBLY SOME SUPERCELL STRUCTURES.
DAMAGING WIND AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE THE MAIN THREATS.
