Montebello’s Community Market Day each September always signals the final days of Summer. Our Paul Purpura traveled south down the BRP to grab some shots at the 2009 event. Lots to eat and see!
There's always plenty of arts and crafts at the Market Day.The displays sprawl out from the firehouse onto the lawn.And the food, always yummy!Montebello Community Market Day is a way for folks to come out and have a day of fun!The firetrucks, ambulances and rescue vehicles are always a big hit with the kids and adults!Rescue anf Fire personell get a chance to meet locals and visitors.

Time to put the white pants and skirt up after today! Labor Day generally is recognized as the unofficial end to Summer as minds turn to football and school. That didn’t stop people from having a great time over the three day weekend that winds up today as many folks prepare for the trip back home.
All kinds of events took place in Nelson this weekend, with the vineyards, breweries, resort and more busy, busy!

Labor Day weekend signals the unofficial end to Summer though it’s not really official until September 22nd. As the final days of Summer unfold, lots is happening across Nelson County. Our Paul Purpura was out Saturday grabbing some of the events taking place across the area. An annual tradition is the Romp, Stomp & Chomp celebration over at Wintergreen Winery. You can literally get up to your ankles in grapes. Their celebration continues today. More info here.
At Wintergreen Resort - Saturday was the International Wine & Food Festival.
Up a bit in altitude it was Wintergreen Performing Arts’ International Wine & Food Festival. Folks got to explore wines from around the world – over 50 wines from Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, California, and, of course, Virginia!
In addition to the wine festival a huge arts and crafts festival was held on the mountain.
Today Afton Mountain Vineyards will be holding their Labor Day Celebration featuring musical entertainment by Lewis McGehee. www.lewismcgehee.com. Lewis has been named “top acoustic act” for three years running in Portfolio Magazine’s Musician Poll, and was recently voted “Best Musician”. Lewis will be joined by his daughter, Cayce, a singer and musician in her own right in her 4th year at UVa.

Tim Gorman, who spearheaded the effort, thanks the crowd on hand Saturday morning just before opening the skatepark.Tim pulls the ribbon apart to officially open the park!Jacob Lane is one of the young men that's been helping construct the half pipe. Saturday he made it official!It's not just for skateboarders, rollerblades too!Some og the youngsters found other ways to entertain themselves until the park officially opened!John Howard (AKA HoBo Jac) drops in Saturday morning.Everyone waiting for the signal to skate!Someone in the crowd holds up a sign thanking Tim Gorman for making the project happen.Colin Bruguiere drops in at Saturday's opening. He and several other yougsters worked many afternoons with TIm to build the half pipe.It's all about keeping the place clean too, as Jason Oliver demonstrates so well!Fund raising for the second phase of the park begins immediately.

The pre-Fall evening was perfect as The Nelson County High Governors kicked off the season here at home Friday night. Our Paul Purpura hopped down off of the mountain to grab these shots of the game. Unfortunately, the excitement of the crowd wasn’t enough to help the home team score. The Buckingham County Knights never let Nelson get a single point smacking the win against Nelson 14-0.
