After months of construction the ribbon was finally cut on new annex at North Branch School (NBS) this past Friday afternoon. The new building will house 5th through 8th grade students and a language computer lab. “There’s still space I don’t know how to use. So it’s an amazing, it feels great to go from I didn’t have a room last year to having this huge room now,” says Michael Donegan, 5th and 6th grade and art teacher at NBS since 1999.
Construction started on the annex about one year ago and was finished several weeks ago before the actual dedication.

Winds gusting as high as 35 MPH up at Wintergreen kept crews busy early Saturday morning. The winds knocked down this tree across Wintergreen Drive at Mountain Inn Loop just past the fire department. Not to worry, they had it cut up and moved out of the way quickly!

After a stretch of fantastic weather for the past several days, changes are back in the forecast for the first part of the weekend. Rain and even a possible thunderstorm enter the forecast by late Friday into Friday night. The rain begins to taper off Saturday night with sunshine back in the forecast by Sunday. Temperatures over the period are a bit cooler than we’ve seen for the past several days, with daytime highs in the 60’s rather than the 70’s and even low 80’s we saw on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier post from Thursday night
We have very few details tonight, but have learned that an auto accident on Route U.S. 29 North at Plank Road (Crossroads) in Albemarle County has left one person dead according to news and witness accounts. The roadway was closed for about an hour and a half while authorities worked the accident. NCL received phone calls and text messages from people stuck in the traffic snarl as the accident was happening.
