A potent developing weather system promises the chance for the first widespread snowfall of the season across Nelson and Central Virginia on Saturday. The greatest threat for significant accumulating snow is to our west in far Western Virginia, but a 1-3 inch swath of snow is possible here in Nelson. The higher amounts would obviously be in the mountains at locations such as Wintergreen Resort, Love, Montebello, etc.

Accuweather.com does a good job of explaining the setup of the approaching storm here.

Forecasters vary a bit regarding accumulations possible on Saturday, but the consensus of all sources points to at least some snow accumulation as a low pressure area tracks up the East Coast on Saturday. How much snow we get will depend on how much rain mixes in with the snow and how cold the ground gets before the snow begins.

At this point, well worth keeping any eye on and we will be monitoring the storm all weekend long with frequent updates!

Food For The Hungry : December 19, 2009 @ Nelson County Pantry

0

One Saturday, December 19th, the Nelson County Pantry will be making our December/Christmas food distribution at the Pantry located at 9890 Thomas Nelson Highway (next to St. Mary Catholic Church). Santa will be there to listen to the kids’ “wish lists” and distribute special “goodie” bags to them. We plan to give out turkeys in addition to the normal shopping bags of food to the families. We also want to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge the special early Christmas present that the Pantry received from Bo Delk, owner of Blue Dog Inc in Lovingston. Mr. Delk donated a 10′ X 25′ walk-in freezer/refrigerator to the Pantry and through the generous cooperation and coordination of Mike Gray of Rightway Installations, we were able to have it installed at minimal cost. The donation of this unit enables us to take advantage of the availability of fresh fruits & vegetables from organizations such as the Society of St. Andrew and the Local Food Hub as well as frozen venison from Hunters For the Hungry.

Just in time for Christmas! Sandra Manning of Charlottesville was the lucky winner Tuesday night of a $1000.00 Devils Backbone Brewing Company gift card. The card was part of a joint promotion between the brewery, Tectonics II and Wintergreen Real Estate Company. “You’re kidding, I have never won anything in my life,” Sandra told Heidi Crandall after calling to let her know she was the winner. Sandra along with her friends and family frequently come to brewery to relax.

“It was a $1000.00 gift card that we offered through DBBC, Tectonics II & Wintergreen Real Estate for people who viewed the Glen Mary model. After leaving the brewery they would come over and deposit the card at the model. We did this for about two months and tonight’s drawing was a culmination of that,” says Tim Hess, co-owner of Wintergreen Real Estate in Nellysford.

“You’ve made my day, now I can go do my work with a smile on my face,” Sandra continued.

Bet we know where Sandra will be spending lots of her winter!

Congrats!
