Nelson County, Virginia

NCL can confirm that Nelson rescue and law enforcement have been working another accident involving a hunter that was accidentally shot with a rifle. “We received a call to assist Nelson Rescue squads with the rescue off of Davis Creek Road north of Lovingston,” Wintergreen Fire & Rescue Chief, Curtis Sheets told us after NCL called to confirm the incident.

“The person that was shot is from Virginia Beach, VA. His friend from South Boston shot him accidentally when he moved in the line of fire,” Nelson County Sheriff, David Brooks, tells NCL late Thursday evening. The accident occurred on Perry Lane just off of Davis Creek.

The hunter was shot in the upper leg / groin area and was flown out by Pegasus helicopter to UVa.

This is the second hunting accident in Nelson County within the past month. 7 year old Connor Craig of Shipman tragically died after being shot in a Thanksgiving Weekend hunting accident.

The VA Department of Inland Game & Fisheries will followup the investigation.

It was a night of caroling, hot chocolate, tree lighting, and of course Santa! He hitched a ride to Stoney Creek Bar & Grill for their annual tree lighting via a fire truck from Wintergreen Fire & Rescue. “The reindeer have to rest right now, we can’t zap their energy before Christmas Eve. That’s our longest working night of the year,” Santa told us as he was preparing to have kids visit and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

Jackson Winter (in Santa hat) along with his dad, Colin, his mom, Amy, and sister Anna, give Santa a wish list for this Christmas.
The night began with Christmas carols in front of Stoney Creek Bar and Grill, just before the tree lighting.

After visiting all of the kids in Nelson, Santa went inside where it was warm and a huge buffet awaited him.
Frank Ott of Stoney Creek gets caught in the middle as Santa gives out hugs Wednesday night.

“I have lots to do between now and Christmas Eve, so I will be heading back to the North Pole between my visits here with kids,” Santa told us Wednesday night.

See you later this month Santa!

Nelson County High Drama Team Wins State 2nd Year In A Row!!

Albemarle County, Virginia

They’ve done it again! The Nelson County High School Drama Team won the state championship for the second year in a row Tuesday night in Charlottesville. “I’m ecstatic! They gave a brilliant performance. It’s just fantastic,” Diana Driver, the team’s director tells NCL after the win. The Nelson team won against 8 other schools that were competing for the state title in the tournaments being held at Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center in Charlottesville. “I think it was their perseverance and their commitment that got them the win. They practiced weekends, night, holidays, you name it,” Diana continued.

The team won against the other schools for their play, The History Of Tom Jones – based on Novel by Henry Fielding. Ironically 3 of the drama team students were also team members of the NCHS Lady Govs Volleyball Team that recently won the state championship as well. Tuesday night, four members of the Nelson Drama Team also won 4 of the 8 awards handed out to other schools.

Diana tells us she wasn’t sure about a win two years in a row. “I wasn’t back until October 11th. We had Peter Coy of The Hamner Theater come in and help out, and we did it!”

The biggest compliment of Tuesday’s performance came when another school’s director made a very flattering remark to Diana. “When are you going to retire, so we can win?”

We hope no time soon Diana!

Congrats to everyone on the drama team. Way To Go!

Blue Mountain Tuesday Tasting – Bourbon Aged Beers

0

Event Details:

Tonight at 6:00PM we will release bottle and draft Dark Hollow batch #11! Join us to taste the differences between the two versions along with vintage Dark Hollow and, for the first 15 participants to arrive, tasting of the legendary Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stout, the original bourbon-barrel-aged beer in the world. And for the first 10 participants to arrive for the tasting, we will be opening one 12-oz bottle of “Heartwood Symposium” a beer created by the Illinois Craft Brewers’ Guild in 2010 for the occasion of the 2010 Craft Brewers’ Conference and World Beer Cup and given out only to participants of the conference. You will never see this beer anywhere again. It was brewed at Goose Island in Chicago by 4 teams composed each of 3-4 different brewers from the different companies. Included in the groups were brewing greats from the likes of Three Floyds, Piece, Flossmoor Station, and Revolution Brewing. Quoting from the bottle: “This ale celebrates the midwest as the birthplace of bourbon-barrel aged American Craft beer. Brewers from 15 Illinois breweries formed four teams, each creating a recipe and brewing it at Goose Island Beer Co.: Imperial Stout, Imperial IPA, Scotch style Wee Heavy and a Barley Wine style Ale. All were aged separately in Bourbon barrels. The resulting Symposium Ale is our taste-tested blend of all four batches.” Awesome! Brewer/co-owner Matt Nucci will be leading the tasting…I don’t think I need to add “be prompt” for attending this one!
