10 PM VERBATIM UPDATE FROM VSP :

“ At the request of Waynesboro Police Chief David Shaw, the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place Wednesday (April 10, 2024) on Interstate 64.

According to Waynesboro Police, they received an emergency call for a shooting at Parkway Village Apartments in the city shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday. As officers were responding to the apartment complex, they observed the shooting suspect’s vehicle fleeing the scene. As officers continued to respond to the shooting scene, other officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the fleeing vehicle, a Lincoln MKZ. The suspect refused to stop and sped away. A pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued over Afton Mountain into Albemarle County and came to a stop along the eastbound lanes of I-64 at the 102 mile marker when the Lincoln ran off the Interstate and crashed into the guardrail. This occurred at approximately 5:38 p.m. After approximately an hour of trying to get the adult male suspect to peacefully surrender, shots were fired. The man was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the course of the incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation by state police.

9:38 PM – 4.10.24 We have people messaging stuck on the interstate saying the suspect was shot and killed earlier by law enforcement. We have no official word on this so far.

Updated 9:13 PM with tweet from our account immediately below :

One of the witnesses stuck in traffic told us, “This is now a crime scene.”

As of 9:15 PM – 4.10.24 we have no official information or releases from Virginia State Police or Waynesboro PD. We will update with more info as we have it.

As of 6:35 PM a police standoff with a man on I-64 eastbound continues. All eastbound traffic is stopped on some drives say at least one lane of the westbound side is getting by.

Albemarle : Popular AM Radio Host & Program Director Shown Door After Acquiring Other Stations

1

Charlottesville
Albemarle County, Virginia

Popular long time Charlottesville morning radio host and program director acquires area stations. Station ownership boots him as of weekend.

“We are looking forward to bringing local news and conversation back to the valley the same way we did for WCHV. We also hope to have my show back on the air in Charlottesville soon.” That’s what Joe Thomas , formerly of WCHV 1240 news talk in Charlottesville told me Monday morning when we reached out to get the story on what’s happening.

Photo Joe Thomas Facebook : Joe Thomas (right) with Fox News Channel morning host, Brian Kilmeade, at a public event in Charlottesville, Virginia – March 2024.

Thomas had been in negotiations for several weeks to acquire a series of stations that was available in the Staunton area. A filing with the FCC became public last week and word spread publicly. Thomas tells us he was let go by station ownership over the weekend.

This is unfolding as we speak and many that tuned in for his longtime morning talk show heard nothing but static Monday morning.

In full disclosure, BRL (Tommy Stafford) has been doing weekend overnight weather hit for WCHV 1240 and 107.5 for years until this past weekend.

Here’s the details from the RadioInsight trade publication story that ran last Friday.

…ELEVATED FIRE DANGER IN EFFECT FROM 11AM THROUGH 8PM THIS
EVENING FOR MOST OF MARYLAND, VIRGINIA, AND EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA

Elevated fire weather conditions are expected today across most
of Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and Virginia.

Relative humidity values are expected to drop back to around 20 to
25 percent Tuesday afternoon, with some areas possibly seeing
relative humidity values below 20 percent for a couple of hours.
West winds gust 15 to 20 mph in the valleys, and 20 to 25 mph on
the eastern slopes of the mountains. Gusts could occasionally be
close to 30 mph. This will result in the continued drying of fine
fuels.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution if handling
open flames or equipment that creates sparks. Also, dispose of
cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable items in appropriate
containers. Keep vehicles off of dry grass and obey local burn bans.
Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily
ignite and spread fire quickly.

For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions,
and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state`s
forestry or environmental protection website.

Scottsville : Old Familiar Faces – New Places – El Cazador Opens For Business

0

Scottsville
Albemarle County, VA

Without too much fanfare, El Cazador Restaurant launched a soft open Monday at 11 AM. The grand opening is Tuesday – March 19, 2024. It was a perfect way for them to do some trial and error before the huge push ahead.

You may remember us telling you about the closure of Margaritas in Nellysford (in this post here) last October after 10 years in operation. Gibran Carnevali was one of the owners that opened the original restaurant. He’s now involved in the opening of El Cazador in Scottsville.

Photo By Peyton Stafford : No opening would be official without the ribbon cutting! Dignitaries and locals made it official around 11 AM Monday – March 18, 2024.

One thing people who are used to the old Margaritas menu will find is a totally revamped and updated one!

Peyton looks over the majorly revamped menu at El Cazador in Scottsville on Monday – March 18, 2024

Congrats to everyone at El Cazador, go by and see them!

Nelson : Deputies Make Arrest After Lengthy Pursuit

0

Release from Nelson County Sheriff’s Office :

Roseland / Arrington Area
Nelson County, Virginia

Just after midnight on March 15, 2024 Deputies with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Nellysford area of Rt. 151 for speeding. Upon making the initial traffic stop, the suspect vehicle failed to stop for law enforcement. The suspect vehicle increased its speed and began driving erratically, crossing the center line several times. The vehicle continued this behavior all the way into the Roseland area. Assisting deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices in attempt to safely bring the vehicle to a stop. Although both front tires had been deflated, the vehicle continued to evade deputies to the intersection of Rt. 151 and Rt. 56 (Tye Brooke Hwy) where the vehicle struck a marked Sheriff’s Deputy patrol vehicle. After the collision, the vehicle continued to Rt. 29 where it turned north bound and then continued to Harvey Rd. The vehicle attempted to evade deputies by driving off road, through a ditch, over and embankment and through a church parking lot. Again the vehicle struck a Sheriff’s Deputy’s patrol vehicle before driving through the yard of a residence and then striking a fence and going over an embankment where it stopped. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. A short foot pursuit followed where deputies were able to apprehend the suspect without further incident.

The suspect was transported to UVA medical center for treatment to minor injuries sustained during the crash. No injuries to law enforcement were reported. The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Shaquan Wilson of Waynesboro VA, who at the time was wanted out of the City of Waynesboro for Felony possession of Dangerous drugs. Mr. Wilson was taken before a magistrate and subsequently charged with the following…
