VSP Investigating Crash in Augusta County

0

Augusta County, VA

“At 7:43 a.m., Thursday (May 11), Virginia State Police Trooper S.J. Nicely Jr., responded to a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in Augusta County.

An Augusta County Public Schools bus was traveling south on Lee Highway. As the school bus approached the intersection at Ford Defiance Road, it failed to brake in time and struck a Subaru Legacy stopped for the red light. The impact of that crash sparked a chain reaction in which the Subaru rear-ended a Nissan Xterra which then rear-ended a Toyota Sienna minivan.

The driver of the school bus, Walter L. Robertson Jr., 62, of Staunton, Va., was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Thirteen students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Three students complained of minor injuries and were checked at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru, a 23-year-old Mt. Sidney, Va. male, was transported to Augusta Health for treatment of minor injuries.

No one in the Nissan or Toyota was injured in the crash.

Robertson was charged with following too closely.

Flood Watches – Canceled

Flood Watches for the majority of the Central Blue Ridge area have been lifted.

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
337 PM EDT Thu May 11 2017

…Flash Flood Watch in Effect through this evening for parts of
Southwest and West Central Virginia, along with Southeast West
Virginia…

…Flood Watch in Effect Friday Morning through Saturday Morning
for areas near and west of the Blue Ridge from Lynchburg to
Wilkesboro…

A frontal boundary across the region this evening will drift south
of the area Friday. Bands of showers and storms are expected to
increase across northern and western sections through tonight.
Some of this rainfall will be locally heavy especially where cells
tend to train across the same region. This may result in localized
flash flooding. As the frontal boundary drifts south of the
region Friday into Saturday and low pressure to the west moves
east, widespread moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall will
overspread the area from the south and west, especially Friday
afternoon through Saturday morning. This will lead to a greater
threat for areal flooding as well as river flooding. The ground
across the region is saturated from recent repeated moderate to
heavy rainfall over the past couple of weeks. Additional moderate
to heavy rainfall will quickly result in excessive runoff of water
into area creeks, streams, and rivers. Some rivers across the
forecast area are expected to see moderate rises through the
weekend, especially parts of the New, Greenbrier, and James river
basins.

This past Sunday Richard continued his fight and pointed it directly at Dominion CEO Tom Farrell.

“This series of signs sends a message that calls out Tom Ferall who’s the CEO of Dominion and points out that this specific piece of land. They’re trying to take this piece of land for their own profits to put in a pipeline,” Richard told BRL Sunday morning.

“This sign calls that out and lets people know that are visiting Bold Rock or driving up and down 151 and who love this area that this is exactly where we are talking about ruining our county.

We wanted to make it clear and make a big statement, and to let them know that we will not back down and we’re gonna fight.”
