Near Brent Gap
Route 151
Nelson County, Virginia
By Tommy Stafford
For the second time in less than a week another semi tractor trailer got stuck heading up the mountain on Route 151 southbound just below Brent Gap. It’s the same story different day as semi drivers attempt to make the sharp curves heading up the mountain.

Longer trailers simply cannot make it up or down the mountain without swinging into the opposing lane of traffic, often in blind spots on the curves.
While VDOT eventually restricted semis from traveling Route 664 over Reed’s Gap, two years ago, above the entrance to Wintergreen Resort at the Blue Ridge Parkway, no such restrictions have been made so far for Brent Gap. Trucks getting stuck there blocking traffic is a montly occurrence, sometimes weekly. Dozens have been stuck in the last year or so.
If you want to see what an issue this has been in this part of Nelson, here’s some history from Reeds Gap, and more here from Brent Gap.
