10:00 AM Field Studies Institute: Living with Wildlife
The first in our series of hands-on adult educational opportunities. Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Black Bear Project Leader, Jaime Sadjecki will discuss life with our black bear neighbors and teach us to better understand and coexisting peacefully with them. Then join us on an excursion to the home of Phil Stokes, President of the Jefferson Chapter of the Native Plant Society. Tour his garden in Ivy, VA as he shows us the plants and strategies he uses to deal with white-tailed deer. $50 members, $60 non-members, register by April 16.

Take the quiz to evaluate your life’s environmental footprint; we’ll have the computer waiting for you. The fun and interactive website will help you take simple steps toward a more earth-friendly life.

Give Mother Earth a face-lift and get your pick of prizes. Stop by the Trillium House to get a trash bag and suggestions of trails that need the most attention. Fill your bag with litter and come back to claim your prize.

9:00 AM Arbor Day
Plant a tree to hug. Stop by the Trillium House to pick up a free tree seedling with planting and care instructions. Supplies are limited; first come first serve. Trees courtesy of the US Forest Service.

If you enjoyed learning about the fascinating Revolutionary War era history of Nelson County during the Winter Lecture Series, don’t miss this opportunity to see the historical homes and places first hand. We will visit several sites from the plays such as Soldier’s Joy, Level Green, and Old Keys Church. $35 members, $45 non-members, includes lunch, register by April 23.

9:00 AM Fortune’s Cove Hike with Dr. Chip Morgan
Join Chip on this beautiful hike near Lovingston to see a unique collection of fringe trees and discuss the geologic history and impact of Hurricane Camille. Wear hiking attire and bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. $15 members, $20 non-members, register by noon April 29.
