Beech Grove / Route 664

As of 8:45 AM Wednesday morning. Two people are in critical condition with life threatening injuries at UVA Medical Center after a Tuesday night crash in Beech Grove.
“Our dispatch center received a call Tuesday evening at 7:51 PM about a severe crash in Beech Grove on Route 664. Our first deputy was there on the scene just after 8PM. Virginia State Police was also called. The patients were transported to UVA via ambulance,” Nelson County Sheriff Mark Embrey told us Wednesday morning.
Wintergreen Fire & Rescue Chief Curtis Sheets said Wintergreen Police units were on the scene within a few minutes at 7:57 PM and the first fire-rescue unit was there at 8:07 PM. “We had a horrible amount of fog coming down off the mountain that critically limited our visibility. Our other station responded from Stoney Creek as well. They were joined by a Nelson deputy a few minutes later.”
After reaching out to our contact at Virginia State Police Headquarters in Richmond we got a bit more addition information.
“At 8:00 p.m., Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Nelson County. A vehicle traveling in the 3100 block of Beech Grove Rd. ran off the road and struck a tree. The driver and passenger were both transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
