Central Virginia Blue Ridge
Nelson County, Virginia
After a couple of days with some difficult travel, most roads are getting back to normal as of Wednesday morning January 17th. There’s certainly icy patches of ice here and there and some secondary roads remained snow covered. But, much of the area is back to normal travel.
Snowfall amounts varied across the region but in Nelson County most folks saw between 4 to 6 inches of snow by the time it stopped overnight Monday. That made for a nice base of snow for sledding or even more snow for skiing if you went up to Wintergreen Resort.
Most schools across the area remained closed on Wednesday to allow secondary and backroads another day to thaw.
Above some NWS snow totals from across the entire area.
The big story now continues to be the very cold temperatures.
Temps won’t nudge above freezing for most people Wednesday and they will once again dive back into the teens tonight. By Thursday we break the freezing mark to near 40°. Thursday night brings the chance for some light snow and reinforcing cold temps that will last into the weekend. By next week we’re back in the mid and upper 50s with a chance for just plain old rain.
