“Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Amherst County. The crash occurred Sept. 24, 2023, at 8:34 p.m. at the intersection of Dillard Rd. and Thomas Rd.
According to witness statements, a 2010 Nissan SUV was traveling on Thomas Rd. when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign, ran off the road and struck an embankment along Dillard Rd.
The driver, Lleyson F. Romundo, 22, of Lynchburg, Va., was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Sept. 25, 2023. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation.
