Central Virginia Blue Ridge
As I discussed in my weather forecast, the potential for damaging storms is in the forecast for this afternoon.
Overnight to our west lots of damage, death and destruction occurred as tornadoes and severe thunderstorms moved through the mid-south and portions of Southern Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois.
Above some of the powerline damage back in my home county in NW-TN.
As the afternoon progresses the airmass over the Central Virginia Blue Ridge region will become very unstable and favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and perhaps isolated tornadoes as well.
I’ll be monitoring the situation all day into this evening and will do updates as necessary. All of the alerts for ou area are available on our site here under VA Area Weather Alerts Or you can see real time alerts as they post also on our Facebook page and on our Twitter Feed too.
My colleagues over at CBS-19 The Newsplex will be on it certainly.
This doesn’t mean everyone is going to get major severe weather, but the potential is higher today that it’s been in awhile that some folks across the region will see damaging storms.
Keep an eye to the sky and your NOAA weather radio or other notifications handy.
