“I always joke with people and say we moved in together, got married, and started a business all in the same year, but we made it through the first year so we can make it through anything,” said Joanie, who studied English (not horticulture, like Sam). They got married in Mexico, came back to Nelson, and went right into the trenches – literally. “We got married in February and came back and spent the winter digging trenches the two of us – the honeymoon was over really fast.”
