Good Sunday afternoon.

There is a chance we could see some isolated severe thunderstorms this afternoon across the area.

The NWS has issued the following statement for our area:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
116 PM EDT SUN MAY 27 2007

…A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS
EVENING…

WARM AND HUMID AIR REMAINS IN PLACE OVER THE REGION THIS
AFTERNOON. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON IN THE HEAT OF THE AFTERNOON. THE AIRMASS
IS VERY UNSTABLE TODAY…AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE
POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING.

A BROKEN LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO FOCUS IN THE AREA
ROUGHLY FROM BALTIMORE MD TO HARRISONBURG VA MOVING VERY
SLOWLY TO THE EAST. ANY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO OCCUR
GENERALLY BETWEEN 4 PM AND 7 PM. THE PRIMARY RISK FROM THE
STRONGEST STORMS WOULD BE DAMAGING WINDS. DANGEROUS LIGHTNING WILL
OCCUR WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS TODAY.

I do not see this as a widespread severe weather event, but in those areas where the storms do intensify, we could see some very strong storms. Local Radar is showing an area of thunderstorm developing to our NW. Expect those storms to increase over the next few hours until we lose the daytime heating.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued well to our north on the VA-PA border, but nothing in our area thus far.

Check back throughout the afternoon for additional updates if conditions change.
