Hot Chickens!

Hot chicken

What a rock & roll day Thursday was. We had a little bit of everything. Above, Heidi Crandall of Roseland, who’s been shooting a few pics for us from time to time, sent this one in last night. In her words:

“My children asked how the chickens pant- with their beaks open!!”

Wouldn’t argue with that one a bit Heidi!

Yesterday was certainly a day for the chickens and the humans to pant. Like Wednesday, we broke 100 + in many places. We topped Wednesday’s high here at our office in Greenfield at 102! All of the NCL-Weathernet stations (except obviously Wintergreen Nature Foundation on Devil’s Knob at 3500 feet!) topped the century mark on Thursday. (see totals below) Phil D’Ambola of D’Ambolas Restaurant up the road e-mailed in to say he even topped 100 degrees there as well. Not a good day to sit on the deck Phil! Bet this weekend will be a better one though!!

Additionally, as I thought and predicted on Thursday, we saw some severe weather in the area, even a tornado warning to the east in neighboring Albemarle. Late last night up to midnight we heard thunder in many parts of Nelson with lightning lighting up the sky way late.

Today will be a day of transition as we head toward better weather for the weekend. Until the front gets clear of the area we’ll still have chances for scattered storms. Skies will be partly sunny at times. We’ll still have enough sun to make the 90’s again today.
