Here is the verbatim press release Sheriff Mark Embrey just sent.

“On Monday, September 7, 2026, at 6:49 A.M., Nelson County
Deputies were dispatched to Lake Nelson in Arrington, Virginia, for a report of a
motor vehicle that was partially submerged in the water. Upon arrival at 7:05
A.M., Deputies observed a passenger vehicle in Lake Nelson, approximately thirty
yards from the publicly-accessed boat ramp.

Additional resources were immediately contacted and responded to the scene.
With assistance from the Virginia State Police Dive Unit, as well as Wintergreen
Fire and Rescue’s Swift Water Rescue Unit, the vehicle was extricated from the
w a t e r .

Inside the vehicle, Nelson County Deputies located a male subject that was
positioned in the driver’s seat. The male has been identified as Mr. Graham Isaac
Bolter of Waynesboro, Virginia. Mr. Bolter’s body has been transported to the
Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond, Virginia, as part of the
investigation.

At this time, there are no additional details that will be released. Our Office would
like to thank the Virginia State Police, Wintergreen Fire & Rescue, and the local
agencies that assisted with this incident.

-Updated 11:55 AM – We are awaiting official information from the Nelson Sheriff. However we have been able to independently confirm that it appears a body has been pulled from the car that went into the lake. Additional details as they are available.

BRL has confirmed crews are working a scene at Lake Nelson in Eastern Nelson County, Virginia. Details are few at this point, but numerous law enforcement, rescue and state wildlife personnel are working the scene, or en route.

A car was discovered in the water this morning.

Sheriff Mark Embrey tells us it is unknown at this time if the car has occupants. The investigation continues.
