…WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

* TIMING…Strong winds will increase this morning ahead of a
strong cold front and continue into early this evening.

* WINDS…West 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

* IMPACTS…Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power
lines. Scattered power outages are expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 45 to 55 mph are expected.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile
vehicles.

…Strong and Gusty West to Northwest Winds Expected Today into
Tonight…

.A strong cold front will move through the region this morning.
In the wake of the frontal passage, gusty west to northwest winds
are expected to develop especially along and near the Blue Ridge.
Wind gusts to near 50 to 55 mph will be possible. The strongest
winds will be at the higher elevations near the Blue Ridge late
this morning into the evening hours.

…WIND ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 AM EDT
THURSDAY…

* Locations…Near and along the Blue Ridge and Alleghany
Highlands as well as parts of the Mountain Empire region and
western parts of the New River Valley.

* Hazards…Strong wind gusts.

* Winds…Northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Timing…Increasing after dawn today and lasting through
Wednesday evening.

* Impacts…Possible downed weaker trees, especially those
weakened by recent heavy wet snows and prior wind storms.
Isolated to scattered power outages will be possible. High
profile vehicles such as campers, recreational vehicles, and
large tractor-trailers will need to be alert for strong cross
winds on north-south oriented roadways.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 MPH or gusts will range between 46 and 57 MPH. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use extra
caution until the winds subside.
