NOAA Weather Radio Charlottesville Transmitter : Back on air as of 7-12-07

Any of you that listen to the National Weather Service broadcast off of the Charlottesville, Virginia NOAA transmitter have probably noticed it’s been down for the past couple of weeks. Is now back on air. That transmitter on 162.450 mhz serves the Nelson County area for watches and warnings. Wednesday night the NWS office covering this area out of DC / Baltimore issued a progress statement on the status of its repair.

…CHARLOTTESVILLE VIRGINIA TRANSMITTER STILL UNDERGOING
MAINTENANCE…

NOAA WEATHER RADIO ALL HAZARDS STATION K Z Z 28…BROADCASTING AT A
FREQUENCY OF 162.450 MEGAHERTZ…HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TECHNICIANS HAVE BEEN WORKING TIRELESSLY TO
TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM…AND BELIEVE THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE
PROBLEM ISOLATED. A REPLACEMENT PART IS ENROUTE AND WILL BE
INSTALLED TOMORROW…THURSDAY. WE EXPECT THAT THIS WILL BRING THE
TRANSMITTER BACK ON THE AIR AT FULL POWER.

IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THAT THIS EFFORT FAILS…ADDITIONAL
TECHNICIANS WILL ASSIST OUR TECHNICIANS IN CONTINUING
TROUBLESHOOTING SUCH THAT WE CAN GET THE TRANSMITTER ON THE AIR AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE.

AGAIN…WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS OUTAGE HAS CAUSED.
WE CONTINUE TO WORK THE PROBLEM AND OUR TECHNICIANS WILL CONTINUE
THEIR WORK UNTIL THE TRANSMITTER IS OPERATING AT FULL POWER ONCE
AGAIN.
