If you live near or frequent the Wintergreen area you may have seen a face and thought, “Where do I know this man from?” On page 32 of our January 2015 issue of Blue Ridge Life Magazine we tell you about Blue Ridge Bureau G-Man, Clint Van Zandt. Clint spent an entire career in the FBI, most notoriously known as an analyst by helping discover the unibomber’s identity.

After commuting to D.C. for more than a decade, the drive (which could take more than two hours each way) got to be a bit too much for Clint, who spends most of his time in his Fredericksburg home. So the NBC station he worked for offered to put a studio inside his home office – complete with lights, camera, and the action! – and when his family began spending more and more time in their Wintergreen home, it wasn’t a huge step to put a studio in the new house as well.
“I’d get calls with fast breaking situations and there’s nothing fast breaking about news in Wintergreen,” he said, adding that he’d often have to make the long drive into D.C. on a moment’s notice if he was needed. “But now what the studio in my house in Wintergreen lets me do is take a phone call, get a little bit of information about what’s going on, thrown a coat and tie on, drop myself in front of a camera, flip the lights on and I am live from 3,500 feet at Wintergreen all the way to 30 Rock in New York.”
