Three Ridges Overlook

That’s a great shot our NCL photographer, Paul Purpura, took of Three Ridges Overlook at Wintergreen. That pretty much captures how the first day of Summer began. Though we don’t officially start summer until 2:06 PM EDT this afternoon, so enjoy your last few remaining hours of Spring mom! My mother back in West Tennessee would much prefer those cooler Spring and even Winter days as opposed to the hot summer days ahead. Today is kind of bittersweet for true summer lovers like me. Today marks the beginning of summer, but it also marks the longest day of the year, after today we begin losing daylight, though it will be about a month before you can see any real difference. There’s lots of summer to go yet! Enjoy!

Wednesday started cloudy with a scattered shower here and there, but quickly cleared and we ended up with a beautiful day across Central Virginia. Overnight we raised the windows. Still have them up now, though we’ll begin to warm quickly by this afternoon, but the humidity will be low so it won’t feel as unpleasant as earlier this week.

With no cloud cover last night we cooled off easily. Here at NCL-Nelson County Life Magazine in Greenfield we dropped to a low of 49.8 degrees around 6:30 this morning. Oddly, upon Devil’s Knob Mountain at 3500 feet NCL-Wintergreen Nature Foundation reported an overnight low of 54.1 degrees at 6:11 this morning. If you watch the weather on the mountains you know we can often have temperature inversions where the temps are warmer up above, that was the case this morning. NCL-Delfosse Winery just off Hickory Creek Road in Faber reported a morning low of 57 degrees at 6:40 this morning. Glad to have Claude’s station back online. Think the computer has been in the wine over the past week! They had some computer problems but think they have been fixed. Welcome back!

On the current surface high pressure controls our weather over the next 36 hours. A weak cold front heads our way by Friday.
Current-Sat Surface Map
