CBS-19’s Rachel Ryan with our media partner at The Newsplex tells us no new details were learned at an 8pm press conference held at Tye River Elementary by the Nelson Sheriff’s office. A command post has been setup there. Rachel says they read a statement, refused any questions by media, and would not allow family to talk to media.

The search continues.

Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks confirms to BRLM this Monday afternoon that his department and other lawmen, including the FBI and Virginia State Police are involved in a search for a missing 17 year old Nelson County girl.

“We will have a helicopter up in the Lovingston area looking this afternoon,” said Sheriff Brooks.

Sheriff Brooks says 17 year old Alexis Murphy (in photo above) has been missing since this past weekend. She was believed to be heading to Lynchburg in a white 2003 Nissan Maxima with Virginia license plates WYN3706.

We are awaiting more detailed information now and will update shortly.

  1. I think I saw this girl today. I was driving west on 5th street toward the YMCA in Roanoke Va. We met at a stop sign. The girl hesitated to turn left on 5th street but went straight on I think Gilmer. The girl was driving a white car. I saw this picture and thought, “hmmm she looks a lot like the girl I saw today.” When I read the girl missing was driving a white vehicle, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to comment. The girl I saw today had 2 passengers I think.

  2. Are officials searching 29 through Amherst as well? All we have heard in various reports is of the search in Lovingston/Nelson area… If she was headed to Lynchburg then shouldn’t the search include both the 29 bypass and old 29 thru Madison Heights on the way to Lynchburg? Lots of areas along both roads where a car could easily go off and be hidden by vegetation, etc… Also, there has been no mention of whether there is any evidence or suggestion of whether she actually made it to Lynchburg… i.e. bank card use, surveillance video in any stores, etc… knowing information like this could help focus those looking to 29 south or 29 north, if she was heading home from Lynchburg… Since this is all pretty simple stuff, I’m assuming there must be more then what is being released to the public at this time… Either way, many many prayers for her safe return…

  3. In my interview with Sheriff Brooks at noon on Tuesday he discussed that and said they were expanding the search radius for 30 miles.
