I was chatting with Ken Harris of a.m. Fog on the phone recently and he told me about one of the neatest things that’s just happened over at their place on the Albermarle / Nelson line along Route 151. Yea, we all know them for their great nursery and greenhouse products, but now they are also carrying one of Nelson’s favorite and award winning wines from Delfosse Vineyard & Winery at Faber, Virginia over near Hickory Creek.
And later this month they begin “Thirsty Third Thursdays” wine tasting, at a.m. Fog, that started Thursday July 31st 4-8 PM. The event continues on into the fall.
And yea, we told you first about Homestead Creamery milk a few weeks ago. That’s available in the farm market at a.m. Fog. This is the real thing in those familiar glass bottles. It gets delivered fresh every Wednesday!And to celebrate a.m. Fog’s 5 years in business, all trees & shrubs are 50% off. Folks this won’t happen again until their 10 year anniversary, so get ’em while you can.
Yvonne says, new shipments of corn arrive every Tuesday and Friday plus they’re picking loads of green beans, cukes, zukes, & squash. Tomatoes & peppers are just starting to come in along with ORGANICALLY grown and conventional peaches too. Cantaloupes are on sale this week 1.79 each or 2 for 5.00…now that’s a deal!

A quick reminder for everyone about this Saturday’s “Reading Rocks” Music Festival over at Cardinal Point Vineyard & Winery. That’s a benefit for the Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville. Nelson County Life Magazine is a one of the many sponsors of the event that begins at 2PM and runs until 9 PM. Nelson’s own, Andy Waldeck is just one of the many bands and singers there. It will be a great afternoon, and since it goes on for the entire afternoon into the evening, you’ll have plenty of time to go by!

Thursday was a pretty disappointing day rain wise. though some stations did pickup a few hundredths of an inch, no one saw a really good soaking. We ended the month of July with a total of around 1.60″ of rain here at Nelson County Life Magazine, not much to write home about. And we ended the month of July with a high of 99.5° here in the Rockfish Valley, so it’ll go down as 100°. Some other stations did see a bit more rain, but all in all a fairly dry month.
We’ll start out the first few days of August with hot days continuing on into next week. By late next week temps drop a bit and humidity levels go down a tad behind another cold front. Over the weekend we have another shot at thunderstorms forming Friday night as an advancing disturbance drops through the area. Some of the storms Friday night could be strong to severe. Again, just like the past several days, this won’t be a big rain event, but a few areas might get the chance to see some wanted rain.
By Saturday we dry out and return to mostly sunny & hot conditions once again.
