Nelson County Sheriff, David Brooks, tells NCL that a Nelson man is in custody today charged with a variety of gun crimes after a woman was shot in the arm with a 22 rifle, according to Sheriff Brooks. Russell Junior Goins, age 49, was arrested and charged with; miscellaneous wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.

“It appears Mr. Goins was drinking. He had a 22 rifle and the woman’s son tried to wrestle the gun away when it went off hitting the woman in the bicep area of the arm. It was a clean in and out wound, and if not life threatening,” said Sheriff Brooks.
