Afton
Nelson County, Virginia

With extremely low humidity readings and strong gusty winds, area fire departments kept busy Wednesday. One of the larger fires broke out in the orchard above a.m Fog in Afton. A brush fire reignited from a burn pile that was over a week old, then gusty winds in excess of 30 miles per hour drove the fire up into the orchard above a.m. Fog. “These guys were fantastic! All of the agencies worked very hard to get the fire under control, and we are so appreciative of what they do. I can’t say enough good about them,” says Ken Harris, co-owner of the orchard, greenhouse, and farm market located on the Nelson-Albemarle County Line just off of Route 151.
