| CULPEPER — A round of winter weather is forecast to move into the Culpeper District late Saturday evening, bringing light snow that may affect overnight and early-morning travel. Snow is expected to begin after midnight and continue into early Sunday, with accumulations varying across the region.
Current forecasts call for 1 to 1.5 inches of snow in the northern portion of the district. Most other areas are expected to receive around 1 inch. Even light snowfall may create slick conditions, particularly on bridges, ramps and mountain passes, which tend to freeze first.
VDOT crews will be mobilized across the district Saturday night to monitor conditions, treat roadways, and respond as needed.
Motorists traveling Saturday night into Sunday morning should remain weather-aware and prepared for changing road conditions:
- Reduce speed and increase following distance.
- Be mindful of VDOT snowplows and equipment and give crews room to work.
- Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, and mountain passes, which freeze first.
- Check 511 Virginia for real-time road conditions through to your destination before traveling.
