Nelson : VSP Investigating Two Fatal Crashes In Last 48 Hours (Updated 2:00 PM)

VSP is investigation two fatal accidents within the past 48 hours. The first was on US 29 Near Woods Mill on Tuesday afternoon (March 14, 2023) – There is no preliminary information available on this one as of 10AM Thursday morning.

“At 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday (March 14), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 29 just south of Route 6.

A 2006 Buick Lucerne was traveling south on Route 29 when it ran off the left side of the road and traveled into the median. The vehicle then spun, hit a ditch and overturned several times, finally coming to rest in the northbound lanes.

The driver, Christopher A. Murphy, 35, of Massie Mill, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

A passenger in the vehicle, Jonathan C. Clark, 34, was transported for treatment of minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.

The second fatal accident was on Route 151 early Thursday morning (March 16th) on Route 151. There is a new post with information here.

“At 12:34 a.m. Thursday (March 16), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash that occurred in the 7300 block of Rockfish Valley Highway in Nelson County. There is one confirmed fatality. A second occupant of the vehicle was flown to UVA Medical Center for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. The crash investigation remains ongoing.
