Devils Knob – 3500′
Wintergreen Resort
Nelson County, Virginia

Though the weekend winter storm was predicted to be significant in Southwest Virginia, it didn’t do much around here. But on the mountain at Wintergreen Resort between one and two inches of sleet, snow and freezing rain fell from the gatehouse up to the resort. At one point Route 664 in Beech Grove was shut down below the gatehouse up to Reeds Gap at the Blue Ridge Parkway. Numerous accidents happened causing crews to shut the road down until highway crews could get it cleared.

Photo courtesy of Derek Kidd : Though the snow wasn’t very deep, it was very slick near the Wintergreen Gatehouse and points up above. This was around 10:30 PM Sunday night. From the gatehouse up to the Blue Ridge Parkway on 664 was very hazardous.

If snow isn’t your thing, and warmer temps re, you are in luck. Signs of spring are on the way later this week with much warmer temps around 70°!
