Verbatim Press Release via Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department:

Arrington / Nelson County, Virginia

“Lovingston and Piney River Fire Departments were dispatched to their first due, along with the County-wide Tanker Taskforce, for a reported structure fire with someone possibly inside the home. Upon arrival of the first personnel, heavy smoke and fire conditions were present from the entire structure. Personnel from Lovingston and Piney River made quick initial attack of the exterior of the home. Once the fire was knocked down, crews entered the structure to conduct extinguishment operations and to do an initial search for anyone that may have been in the structure. Due to the condition of the home, the initial search was halted for a short period of time until personnel could safely navigate the home due to compromised floors and a collapsed roof.

Once personnel were able to re-enter safely, the search and extinguishment operations continued. Personnel located a deceased person inside of the structure and immediately turned the scene over to law enforcement for investigation. Fire units remained on scene to assist with further fire operations as deemed necessary by Virginia State Police while conducting their investigation.
