Authorities are investigating a fatal work related accident in Nelson County just off of White Mountain Road near the Albemarle County line at a field logging site.

Updated with amended release from Nelson County Sheriff David Hill, deceased person’s name released:

On 3/6/2019 at 12:57PM the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service to investigate a reported work related accident at a logging site near the 2200 block of White Mountain Road in Afton, Virginia. Bryant D. Thurston, age 43, of Augusta County, Virginia was discovered dead at the scene. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating their investigation with the Virginia Department of Labor & Industry and The Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. This is an open investigation. There is no more information available at this time.

Nelson County Sheriff David Hill released the following information Wednesday afternoon regarding the accident. The verbatim release:

“On 3/6/2019 the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate an apparent work related accident in Afton, Virginia. A 43 year old male was discovered dead at the scene. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating their investigation with the Virginia Department of Labor & Industry and The Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.”
